CHELTENHAM FLYER 16 MAR 13
« on: 04 March, 2013, 06:34:22 pm »
At last I can pedal on both legs and I may even be able to do my Flyer next week to sample the excellent soup at Burbage.

Numbers for the combined events (supporting 150km and 100km) are looking good. Though, there is a notable lack of riders for the 200km Flyer (compared to previous years), which is a cracking route down the River Coln and into Wiltshire to see Canals and White Horses. And as for ‘pretty villages’, you see some of the best the Cotswolds and Wiltshire have to offer.

So, if any have forgotten about this event, previously organised by Ron Carlton, you can still enter. No deadline but earliest notification requested.

The 2013 Routesheets and gps tracks are now on the AUK website. Maps and the postal version of the RS can be obtained by email to my normal eddress.

I'm riding, and I'll give this event and Steve a massive plug.

Not only is the route sublime, with a mix of swooping vistas, glorious climbs, lush river valleys and very few shit bits, but the controls are totally great.

I'm in, too. Would be nice to see a couple of familiar faces (although I'm probably not that familiar myself). Really looking forward to this ride as it looks like a fab route - just can't decide whether to ride down to the start (from Malvern) or take the car...

I'm in as well and if like last year, this audax has 'the' best feast control.  Looking forward to it  for a relatively comfortable 200km fixed ride.

I'd would have loved to have ridden this event but I have my parents visiting that weekend. (Maybe I should get them trained up as helpers!)
I'll probably ride it as a perm later in the year, I remember hearing great reports about it.

Entered.

If its anything like last year, then you are all in for a treat.  The weather was great, the route was great and the controls were great.

Just remember to save something in the legs for the final climb!

If you check the RS, you will see I have changed the 'run-in'. TR at Park Corner, follow the Corker (in reverse) to The Whiteway, TL for Withington to join the outward route.

Sensible move.  Last year the last few miles were on roads that were just too busy, but then it was the first running of the event in this form.

I think this is the third incarnation of the Cheltenham Flyer that I have ridden and it is by far and away the best.  The Cheltenham Flyer used to attract massive fields. This version deserves to.  It's

I did this last year as my first ever Audax and I'm still doing them, which means two things:

It's a lovely route with really good controls, so good that I kept doing events  :)
I am a glutton for punishment  :-[

Sadly I can't make it to this one but good luck to everyone that enters.

I'd be there if it were not for a certain rugby match!

I rode the Character Coln 100 yesterday and tracked a better route from Highworth to Fairford. This is now the route on the website for download and the one I will be posting over the next day or so.

Sounds good - will look out for the new route sheet/gpx. Just hope the temperatures won't stay as cold as they are forecast for Monday: according to the metoffice they won't even look over the 0 degree mark then...

Accepted BT. I am accepting EOLs. But I would prefer advance advice so that there is minimal delay at check-in and I can advise Control Teams.

Steve's sent out a tcx file, which is as much use to me as a chocolate teapot.  How do I convert it (quickly and easily) into a gpx file?  I can then split it up into eTrex-friendly segments.

Open it in bikehike, then save it as a gpx...will take 20 seconds

I dunno why anybody's doing this!

Was that Blowingstone Hill or Spring Hill you were thinking of?
