GOSPEL PASS 200 SBH SUNDAY 26 MAY 2013
« on: 08 May, 2013, 06:23:45 pm »
I hope that many of you have noticed your late-SBH treat of the GP200. I have placed it after the BC400 and BCM600, rather than between the 2, so that you enjoy the GP as a wind-down and to complete an AAASR; you did the YrElenith300?

Another reason for this post is to ensure you give me a clue to your entry, as the number of riders determines the logistics to support you down route; and that takes people who need to be drummed up to help. Note Paypal available and overnight pre-event at the VH.

I will not close entries but notice after the 600 would not help support logistics.

All routes (100, 150, 200km) remain as last year.

Do you have a GPX file for the 200? I'm tempted.

My name is down for the 200 already.  Any news on when the routecards will be out and, just out of interest, which side of the GP do we go up (the easier side starting from the "Slaughtered Lamb" pub and the woods or the other way)??  Just wondering which cassette I might prefer.

Ta muchly.

Yes, email me on normal email, not PM. Route climbs from Llanthony so you hit the poor roads at slow speed to enjoy the swift descent into Hay

Is that the Slaughtered Lamb famously used in American Werewolf in London?

I'm in at the moment, but Stephen has probably already got a DNS next to my name, as so far I've not managed to get to one of his rides I'd entered - sorry!
I entered this one in the hope that my knee will be sorted by then, but after slow progress for the past couple of weeks I seem to be suffering yet another relapse. Some crazy people have suggested a full 2 weeks without any cycling  :o, but am so far insisting on ignoring their advice an still hoping to get up the Gospel Pass.

It is indeed.  Not sure how much they used of it in the film though as it doesn't back onto a moor  :)

Nice pub though (just stick to the path and don't stray though, eh!!).

Ooh, it just means I've been there years ago without realising it was a future site of one of my audaxes - we stopped off to have a look on a School trip back in the 80s.  Must remember to have a pint there next time I'm down that way and keep a look out for werewolves ;)

:) Really looking forward to this ride, we entered a while ago.  Planning to overnight in the hall Saturday.  Need to investigate if it is possible to ECE on just the home bound ride afterwards.

Entered, will be my first 200 since the New Cheltenham Flyer due to some health problems. Seems to be sorted now and I looking forward to a great ride.
Please remember to order good weather for the day.

Well, I'm out - got another deadline thrust upon me today, so will be working this weekend. This will also put paid to my National 400, I think, as I won't be getting many long rides in before, and haven't done that much lately anyhow.
This is the end of my RRTY efforts, too  :'( . Not my lucky year.
Sorry Steve - I don't think I'll ever dare to enter one of your events again, as this is now my third DNS.

Bugger the deadline, keep meeting the deadlines and they'll keep them coming and they'll keep getting shorter ;).

Wise words indeed... I can try and catch up, or bribe a colleague to do some of my marking, but I don't have much hope  :(

Please advise your real identity by normal email. I may need your card for late entries and offer a refund.

I rode the 200 on Monday. Lots of new tarmac and my (L leg broken femur in Dec) body responded well to climbing in/out of saddle for 3AAA points. Really enjoyed the remote stretches and views.

Good news on the Tarmac front. Do you think 23mm tyres will be passable on this route? Would prefer to ride my lighter summer bike if possible with a 28t on the back as opposed to my traditional Audax steed which has 25mm tyres and only a 27t on the back and a lot heavier!

I've just entered. THis is a crazy decision. It's far too hilly for me! But I got a bit excited at the prospect of a nice route.

Rode a half decent CF ALAN on 23F/25R and it was DRY. NO probs; just need to keep your eyes open for the odd P*****e. Would not like to descend the GP the way we go up, as the poor (read atrociuos) lower section surface is tackled at 8-10kph rather than 28-40kph. Couple bends on Hay-Pandy return almost caught me out; perhaps a bit too cocky, as it is a 20km steady descent from 455m. But, to the credit of this route, the fast descents are on good tarmac (and quite exhilerating!). Deserves to be as Classic. Who else is voting?

Not packed yet but hopefully we've got the ECE entry sorted out now.  We've learnt a lot about google maps in the process!  Looking forward to a leisurely ride with sightseeing tomorrow, hopefully some sleep in the hall and then the main event  :D  The 100km ECE ride home will be interesting  :-\
