Fitter/faster/goals

I'm not new to cycling but I am new to the science of it... The heart rate monitoring, speed count, etc. I am also new to wanting to improve!

I'm aiming to do some sportives this year but I also want to have a go at track cycling.  I want to be fast and I also want to aim to write my own training plan. Not necessarily straight away, but eventually I would like the understanding. 

Does anyone have any good reading recommendations and/or starting plans.

Join a cycling club that has a coach who has track knowledge.

Thank you, will try to find one! Anyone know of any clubs in the northants area with good track knowledge? Or any clever ways to source clubs info?
