Terrific!  I love the mysterious top left area, misting into the unknown distance!  Thanks, John.

Thanks Peter. Not far in that direction is a field where grass was being cut (for silage?). A field where there were plans for housing which have now been refused/abandoned/shelved.

A small gathering under the apple tree.  Largest one maybe 150mm diameter:

Lovely.  "A Small Gathering Under The Apple Tree" could easily be a Barbara Pym title!

Pestle puffballs:

Amethyst deceiver (not as good a picture as Salvatore's though - poor focus, annoyingly):

Fly agaric:

Birch bolete, I think:

And another, possibly:

Not sure what this one is - saffron milkcap? (aka the delicious milkcap)

Some other kind of milkcap - there were loads of these in a very small area:

Don't know what these are:

There were enough of the puffballs to make a decent lunch - they had a lovely smell but didn't taste of much:

Wasn't confident enough of identifying any of the others to want to risk eating them!

Excellent crop, Citoyen.  If only the magpie inkcap was called a magpie deceiver it could be re-named Amanda Staveley!

Peter, maybe Amanda Staveley is more like a bitter bolete, which leaves a nasty taste in the mouth...

I rode out to Swithland Reservoir after the rain had cleared through yesterday afternoon to see if I could spot the Glossy Ibis that others had reported.  There were loads of birds but none of them were particularly glossy or even the right shape :(   On the way there I spotted this on a mown verge and almost managed to get a photo that was focussed on the subject matter  ::-)

Inkcap and Scarlet Loughboriensis Horizontalis.

 ;D

If you look closely I think that you will find that it is actually the rarer Orange Loughboriensis Horizontalis.

Willow bracket or fire sponge, I think. It's been there for years.
"The top is covered with a dark, often cracked crust, a stem is present only in its infancy. Unlike most fungi it has a hard woody consistency and may persist for many years, building a new surface layer each year. It was prized as kindling material. In Alaska, it is burnt by locals, and the ash (punk ash) is mixed with chewing tobacco to enhance the effect of the nicotine in the tobacco." (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phellinus_igniarius)

Some candlesnuff fungus on a mossy stump. Also a tiny insect, probably a couple of mm long.
