Wisława Szymborska, poet and Nobel laureate, died on 1st February at the age of 88. She was probably not well known outside Poland, partly because she didn't like publicity and tended to be in the shadow of her more famous Nobel-winning compatriot Czesław Miłosz but also because, as everyone knows, poetry doesn't travel well. But here's some anyway (in translation).
