Dead SD card

I've got a Secure Digital card (with photos on it) that seems completely dead.

I get error messages when I put it in a camera, and they won't even offer to reformat it.  When I put it in a card reader, the computer doesn't even recognise that there is something there.

None of the file recovery software I have (RescuePro, photorec) are aware that the card is in the card reader.

(Other cards work fine).

I've tried cleaning the contacts.

Any more suggestions?

It does sound a bit like you're out of luck.

You seem to have tried everything I would have tried.  The trouble seems to be that most recovery software can't help, if the fundamental hardware driver can't even see the card, which sounds like it may be the case.

long shot, try a different computer with a different operating system.

Soemtimes the cards work when reformatted, but that doesn't help with recovering whatever's on there.

Sounds like it really is dead then.  If I can figure out how to operate Sandisk's support site then I'll try contacting them.

Lucky we had two cameras with us.
