Nice human interest story about Stanning.

Quote
Heather Stanning (born 26 January 1985) is a British rower and Royal Artillery officer who won a gold medal for Great Britain in the 2012 Olympics.[1]

Stanning was born in Yeovil, England, and educated at Gordonstoun, Scotland. She almost lost her right arm in a live-fire exercise in 2008 but has since fully recovered

It will make a nice bridge into the Paralympics and 'Our Heroes'.

You have overlooked the GB mens gymnastics team, the 8 rowers who got a bronze and William Fox-Pitt. 14 men vs. 8 women ,I think.

W2- expected to win, but did it in fine style, controlling all the way. Top rowing.

M8 had a good race, you could see the Germans (both cox and crew) looking across in a slightly concerned 'Eh?' manner as they were pushed in the middle 1km. GB crew were obviously disappointed, but should be proud of a good race performance & a bronze.  :)

W4x very disappointing as they have been over the last year or more, with a varied crew but all good quality scullers. Something not right there, not sure what.  :(

The Daily Mail must be having a shit fit. First the Olympic opening ceremony celebrates Suffragettes, the Jarrow marchers, workers, and the NHS, now the first gold, silver, and bronze GB medals are won by women.

I can see how having a Royal Artillery Captain winning a Gold medal for her country after recovering from a live fire accident which threatened her arm would present problems for a right wing paper, noted for its human interest stories and focused at women. Not!
