It's a real thing, named after the brewery's proximity to, ahem, Little Lickinghole Creek (where it forks into Tarred Rat Creek). Between Richmond and Charlottesville. They sure know how to name things thereabouts. I hate to think what they were doing for entertainment back in the day.

Anyway, nice beer.

The big Morrisons in town has Siren Broken Dream at £1.75 a can, so I picked up a couple. Good for these dark winter nights...

Homeopathic beer this evening - Wellraiser hopped water.

A freebie from Ocado, no sugars, no calories, no real flavour.  There's a slight hoppiness there, but without the beery body it's oddly disconcerting.

By all laws of homeopathy, should I now be pissed as a fart?

Lidl's Purple Panther porter. Not bad at all, especially at £1.09 a bottle.

Lidl's Woodgate vintage cider is Westons' in disguise and very drinkable, although at 7%+ it's not a quaffer. £1.19 a bottle.

Hi - Has anyone had any experience of a Krups Sub home-tap system ?

I didnt even know these things existed. They seem to have good reviews

I'm not sure what they achieve, beer is fizzy out of the can or bottle and there seems limited beer support (Heineken, oh my inner beer snob recoils). I suppose if you want to pour pints at a party.

For bigger parties, you can hire Lindrs (or similar) which are awesome as they use standard kegs and you can get models that compress the gas so you don't need a separate supply, so connect to the keg and go. You can even get 10l Keykegs these days. Still a bit much for a night in front of the TV though.

(A friend of my wife's had one in his garage, which he's converted into a bar. Hmmm.)

I just looked them up. Seems like a lot of money for very cold beer and not much of a choice (though Beer Wulf had Wild Beer and Brewdog offerings which surprised me but most of the rest was guff).
Most of what's on offer I don't see what the advantage would be over just drinking it tinned.

The beers seem expensive.   Chouffe was 18 quid.   Lagunitas also.   I like a hieneken occasionally but wouldn’t have 2 pints at one go.

I don’t think it’s just a colder beer you’d get.   It would hopefully be closer to a draught beer

Yes but I'd still rather have good beer out of a tin than not very good beer on draught.

On the home brew stout these days, so much better than anything commercial - it dose not generate hangovers anywhere near as easy, it's tastier, richer and only about 50p a bottle.

A Bad Kitty vanilla porter with lunch today, very nice, chocolatey, rich, vanilla there but subtle and not sweetly dominating.   I wouldn't normally indulge at lunchtime, but it was a day off and lunch in Cambridge at Stem and Glory. They have some other interesting beers as well

Recently in Istanbul, I was told by a local work colleague about a micro brewery in the area I was staying - Beşiktaş, a non-touristy but close to painfully-almost-trendy area, especially if you go to the carsi  ;D (the market place centre, which I did). As I passed by the "Craft Beer Lab" I noticed the brewing vats on display. I thought, not unreasonably in my view, that this indicated I had found said microbrewery.

The staff at the door confirmed that they did not brew their own, but they also confirmed that they sold beer for drinking. Sounded good to me. So I headed down into the bowels where the bar was.

What EXCITING beers did they have on tap?

My selected tipple was from a local brewery, and very pleasant indeed

Well, we didn't have a lot of walking distance venues to choose from in Maspalomas since the 2nd one on our list had closed but we kept going back to B2 Burger Bar because they had not only Belgian, but Canarian craft beer.

That's an interesting address. Not far from me is a road called Aylesbeare. I'm disappointed that no-one thought to open a pub there.

...

I think got many of those in La Palma the other week. One of the breweries was on the other side of the island but someone put a bloody huge caldera in the way.

In other news, I think tonight is the night for some special beers. Prepare the beer coffin, I am going in. (Warming up with a pleasing Mondo Oatmeal and Raisin Stout.)
