Title: criterium du dauphine
Post by: A Cyclist on 04 June, 2018, 11:48:27 am
Might as well have a thread for this race rather than contaminate the Giro 2018 thread with stuff that is not relevant.

I think we know that Sky did OK yesterday with Kwiatkowski winning, Moscon third, Thomas crashed but still managed a time very close to Nibali, Bardet and Dan Martin.

Hmmm.  I think it may be more complicated than that:  Geraint crashes so regularly that it is one of the few fixed points in modern cycling.  I think we need to check the places he comes off and the trees he hits to see if they have been sprayed with epo which then travels straight into his blood stream.  This post may contain elements of fantasy........

No doubt there will be a suggestion that Thomas crashed deliberately to enabled lots of TUEs in order to take PEDs that would otherwise be hard to justify.  All part of the cunning master plan!

He's just trying to get out of doing the TdF coz Bethany [8]’s BFF 5 has still got a massive crush on him.

Just a Heads-up; I'm not sure you've seen this other thread that is badly missing your insights:

Impey's excuse was awesome. Almost as good as Contador's butcher.

Anyway, this is a bit of a borefest compared to most years. What with the TdF starting later due to the WC most of the big names are opting for the Suisse instead. Should be much more intriguing, especially seeing how Landa and  NQ get on.

In addition to being boring, it's certainly ominous for the TdF. Geraint seems have to have decided that the solution to not being able to stay upright is to just ride faster when he is upright.

Worst Criterium I've ever seen.  Not sure how they managed it, didn't help that SKY had won it by the TTT, but keeping all the fun until the last two days meant that it was TT, sprints, TTT, two days of racing with everyone with a handicap on SKY.
Not enough Bardet manic attacks, needed a Nibali breakaway really.

Maybe yes, maybe no. What you had was a race where you had to attack to win (if you weren't G) and that led to more exciting racing, though not a more exciting GC.

It wasn't "more exciting racing" compared with the last 3-4 CdDs that I've seen.

To each their own.
