Tracktastic goodness on the tellybox!
It takes blood and guts to be this cool but I'm still just a cliché.

Yep - and there are some good clips on the BBC /Sport /Cycling website

The Jason Kenny crash last night was spectacular (neither guy seriously hurt  , although Jason will need some new shorts) - I was on the finish line, 5 rows back - awesome.   And the 4 Ruskies that touched wheels had quite a prang - the carpenter had to come out to mend the track.

Skid across the line - that's a win that'll live on in pub retellings.  It's not many sporting events that have a carpenter on standby!

Did you hear what the intro commentator said?  Not only was this meet sold out, there were ticket touts outside.  Mmm, bask.

From what I saw it was "tout" in the singular ... but nevertheless "good" for cycling.

What was really strange though was that it was like going to cricket Test Match - groups of people coming in with picnic hampers and bags full of food .... but then the "burger van fare" on sale inside the Velodrome was pretty dire.

For such a healthy sport, the food concessions in the velodrome are abysmal. No wonder all the girls have bad skin.

... the other obvious thing where the whole thing was missing a trick was "merchandise" ... I'm sure that they would have done a roaring trade in replica jerseys, caps whatever ("replica" but different from the "real" riders' stuff) - you'd think Sky would be on to that one.

There may be some issue with the Lottery funding and commercialism ... but that doesn't stack up in common-sense terms - surely revenue/profits from commercial activity would help the cause even more?

Nothing available to buy other than a guy selling over-priced books and some weird t-shirts.

Thinking of which, I wasn't sure about Vicky's new Sky HD strip until the camera hung on her before the off, and it became kinda electric Tron muscles.  I am sold.  Who were the lot with the spines coming out of the back in red?

Our guys took down three tickets for Friday which someone else couldn't use (couldn't get there till Saturday) with instructions to pass them on to the deserving poor of Manchester.. Charity from the Scots no less..

And great TV on Sunday. Lizzie Armitstead is really one to watch. Matt Crampton will be happy after scooping EUR15k in the kierin.
