.....stick it up your arse".

I, who am not known for shying away from a soiree, am transformed into a Humbug of epic proportions by the mere mention of a Hootenanny.

As luck would have it, I share this loathing with my sister-in-law's spouse and tonight, we will be sitting together arms tightly folded on the sofa, glowering at anyone who dares to mention Big Ben or suggests going out on the street to embrace neighbours you spend  the other 364 days of the year trying to avoid making eye contact.

Anyone else dread New Year's eve parties and all that Auld Lang shite?

miserable gits.  We're off to get pissed with the same mates we've had new year with for the last 10 years. the only downside is that it's fancy dress this year, but at least I get to wear green tights...

Yes. This is why we traditionally go down to my brother's. He lives in the middle of nowhere which is good.
We generally get a huge roaring fire going, make lots of sausage rolls, stuff our faces, drink lots of ale and watch something on DVD like the Holy Grail or somesuch. This year it might be the Mighty Boosh.
At any rate we stay well away from all the 'Hugmunaaaay' pish on the telly :-X (it's dreadful up here in the heathen lands).
There is no snogging at midnight. (Well, maybe Bob & Pingu do when I'm out of sight).  ;D
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

Judging from Bonfire Night's poor showing, there will be few fireworks this year due to the credit crunch

Did someone mention that smug wonker Jools 'smug wonker' Holland?

Come my coronation, he will be shot. Along with Elaine Paige and Terry Wogan.

Annie, thanks for the offer but I don't think your jamas will fit me.

I don't mind New Years Eve. I usually earn some decent money for a change.

Mrs nicknack will be at home on her own and will very probably have an early night.
There's no vibrations, but wait.

We're off to the Northcote with the usual crowd, it's ticket only (free) and will be the same drink fest as we have whenever we're up there.

At some point somebody will ask what my resolutions are and I will reply that I intend to be less understanding and more direct in my responses to idiots. Or I might just slap her.

Once he's on his 5th pint The Groper will try to touch somebody up, he will get slapped.

At midnight the smokers will run to the garden joined by the non-smoker who does not wish to be joined by the crossed arms to somebody she has never met before. We will stand around in the cold, whinging about tradition, we will then run back into the pub for the non-traditional midnight plus 5 buffet.

We will then have a last drink and roll home.

I am trying to convince Vern (and me) that the following morning is the ideal time for a brisk 50 miler.

What a wonderful line!
I wish to embrace and uphold this spirit also, Clare.
And I'll buy you a drink when we next meet  :)

Annie,

with my post Christmas girth gain, I doubt we would both fit in your jimjams!

As for New years Eve- load of old crepe. To many folk looking for yet another excuse for making enough noise to wake the dead way past a resonable hour. I'll get the ZDF on standby.

I will be here watching telly and when the fireworks go off I will watch the high up ones from the window and then go to bed.

Well there was the incident with the strawberries and the chocolate ;) and the one early in the morning with a van full of Occifers of the Law and a big stick and the one with the river and the mud and ..... but that's as daring as it gets really.
