me too sadly (and the first train from Edinburgh Saturday gets into Darlo 0758....Id not travel to an event with anything less than about an hours buffer)

I was just in Masham last week arranging the pub control. The things I do for AUK...
FTR, three pints is the maximum anyone's had at Masham. Or possibly four - their memory was a little vague on that point.
I've placed an order for less wind than last year, but that'll probably guarantee you'll all get rained on.

I did think of changing to include more pit villages, or more hills, but in the end I left it as it is. It's a good route.

Snow settling on roads in Ferryhill. Coat drenched. Gloves drenched. Socks wet. Onto my backup dry gloves and backup dry winter jersey. Discretion, valour et al: took the A167 back to Darlo. Changed and in the car trying to warm up. DNF for me, but it was lots of fun while it lasted.

Same here turned back at ferryhill. Bit too much settling on the road for my risk averse liking.
Good luck to anybody that does finish, I get the impression once you get down off the moor you might be ok.

A lovely offer - but home now and cooking roast lamb, drinking warm beer. I finally stopped feeling cold in my chest and legs as I drove past Ferrybridge services. That was a brilliant adventure Deano - and genuine kudos to anyone pushing through to the brighter weather.

"Oooh, it's snowing!!";
"Ah, Fishburn control";
"Feck, I can't feel my feet!!";

"Ooh look, a train!";Catches train! (Sadly it was a Pacer, so my feet didn't warm up on that either, blooming gale force, freezing blasts of wind through the sodding bus doors!)

The northeastern tip of the route seems to have been particularly grim, judging by the comments I received from riders who finished, and the frantic phone calls from those who sought shelter in the cafes, pubs and WMCs of Ferryhill and Kirk Merrington.
If you got through that lot (and it was a big if), it was a decent ride afters. Might have been a bit headwindy back to Darlo, mind, as the first rider was two hours slower than the first rider last year.
Ah well - you make plans as an organiser, and as riders, and sometimes the weather just comes and pisses all over your plans. I was pleased to have as many finishers as I did, and nobody was hurt, so I reckon everyone made the right choices.

I met several others later in the Beefeater (finish control) who had also packed and sat around to see the first finishers in a little under 10-hours.
Well done to Dean for putting the event on. The weather is always a lottery at any time of the year of course. Hoping its a bit better for the Gt.North Road 400 next May though.

I mean I know it was possible to stay upright but the risk of not doing so was greater due to the slush in my opinion. Wouldn't feel too bad about it

It was definitely a full winter gear ride, setting off in the light rain and cold, getting excited seeing some snow on a car, I thought that would be the only snow I would see!
It then got heavier and then saw a lot of riders turning around, at this point the hands were very cold.
Stopped at a bus shelter to check my weather radar app, no showers the furthest west you went. Carried on and few miles down the road the roads were fine.
Promised myself a fry up and some warmth in a cafe in Middleton, the excellent The Tees'pot did an excellent fry up.
The next leg down to Masham had the benefit of a strong tailwind, it was now a sunny, crisp winters day, even undid my zip on my jacket!
Welcomed by the controllers at the White Bear, half an Old Peculier. Then headed north, on some nice lanes onto Appleton Whiske, where tea and food was provided by the controllers, they put in a great shift!
Not far to the finish now, on arrival the chat and beer was flowing well. Glad I had booked the Travelodge so I could join in!
So big thanks to Deano for organising, and the controllers for enabling me to have a great day out, and not one garage forecourt to visit!
