Lidl offers (workstand, lights, pannier bags, pumps etc)
« on: 27 March, 2017, 10:40:21 pm »
Lidl are doing a cycling special at the mo:
https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/Non-Food-Offers.htm?id=145

I got the £25 workstand and £6 light set. The last time they had this workstand, I'm sure it was £30 and it was that price going back 3 or 4 years.

I haven't opened the box yet, here's a review:
https://yacf.co.uk/forum/index.php?topic=61137.0

When they had this previously, each time I wasn't sure about buying and each time I ended up not buying it, I was also put off having to take the bus to get it. So when I saw it's now gone down to £25...
Weight with the box is 7.8kg.

The front light takes 4 AAs, has a shaped beam although quite narrow, 3 settings:10,20 and 40 lux.

They had a similar light a couple of weeks except it had a USB rechargable battery, presumably non-removable, £10 inc a rear light.

The roll top panniers are £10 for 2, but they only come in black and white, or black and lime green.

Other stuff include chain cleaner, pumps, mitts, glasses.

What with Lidl sponsoring the Quickstep team, have their cycling goods improved? I kept noticing a Crivit Pro logo on the likes of Julian Alaphilippe and decided to check whether the team actually uses Lidl gear. They don't. The kit is made by Vermarc, and Lidl only contributes food and "practical leisurewear", of which there are no pics or details. Presumably there's a box of Lidl tracksuit bottoms gathering dust at the back of the bus.

It tickled me that the Lidl-sponsored Alaphilippe currently has to wear a spottyjumper with "Carrefour" written on it in large, friendly letters.

Apparently down to some strange "promotional" idea, Lidl delivered several tonnes (!) of bananas to the team at the start of the tour. I've no idea what they did with them - I assume they tried to give them away to every single fan there!

Resurrecting this thread because Lidl have some interesting-looking bikepacking bags coming up on 8th March:

My neighbour's actually got this saddle. It lives on a 1970s Gazelle locked up to a drainpipe outside, uncovered. https://www.lidl.co.uk/en/p/cycling-accessories/wittkop-medicus-air-memory-foam-bike-saddle/p30158 He rides around everywhere in normal person clothes and seems to do fine for it.

I'll probably give the frame bag a go - already got decent saddle and handlebar bags, and the frame bag looks relatively compact (most frame bags are too big for my frame).

Worth noting that Planet X have slashed their own bags' prices in response (handlebar bag, frame bag and fork bag).

I have the wide version of the saddle on my elephant bike, nice for every day clothes, and much better than the squidgy thing it came with.
The work stand is functional, but I have had problems with the threads on some of the clamp bolts stripping and the plastic clamps allowing the nuts to rotate.

Went to the local Lidl in search of a frame bag - no bikepacking bags at all to be found. :( Plenty left of everything else, but not the bags. I'm surprised, as the cycling stuff in that branch doesn't tend to sell out quickly normally.

Picked up a T-Handle Hex Key Set from Lidl earlier.  £4.99.  2, 2.5, 3, 4, 5, 6, 8, 10mm.  Seems decent.  "Germany"

Looks like some people add £10 and sell them on fleabay.

I was in Lidl earlier & grabbed one of those sets as I don't have any T handle jobs.   They also have Torx sets for the same price.
