I suppose I shouldn't be surprised that an essential cycle route - from Keswick to Threlkeld - needs to rely on an element of public donations. Imagine the reaction if a well-used road needed donations in order to be restored / repaired. Obviously a standard tabloid response would be that "cyclists don;t pay road tax - ie vehicle excise duty. I do pay VED, however choose to cycle as well.
Anyway, it is a valuable and useful stretch so I'll be making a donation despite my reservations:
