Route Kingston-Pangbourne?
« on: 30 August, 2018, 02:05:38 pm »
We missed out on going to Mildenhall last weekend and accordingly I'd like to ride a 200 brevet before the end of the month. I'm looking at riding from Kingston to Pangbourne straight after work tomorrow. The Google Walking option looks a bit grim to cycle around Sunbury and Staines. Is there a better Friday evening peak hour route that doesn't add too many kilometres?
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

Don't know about that end but whatever you do avoid Reading. Best route would be to cross the river at Sonning bridge, then skirt round the north of Caversham, then through Chazey Heath and Path Hill. It's not brilliant, but nowhere is on a Friday evening. If you really want freedom from traffic there's a fairly benign off-road route from Sonning bridge to Whitchurch, but I'd recommend at least 28mm tyres, and you will get some festival pack-up traffic along the Mapledurham stretch.
