North West Scotland Geopark

I'm still practicing with my HD video camera, filming my favourite part of the country. I've had a positive response from the Geopark staff. The visitors to this are are pretty posh, hence the restrained tone. Best on Vimeo http://vimeo.com/moogaloop.swf?clip_id=1741447&server=vimeo.com&fullscreen=1&show_title=1&show_byline=1&show_portrait=0&color=01AAEA there is a Youtube version. http://www.youtube.com/v/HvYg-0zMHHs&rel=1

Nice photography as always. Shame about the hiss and clicks on the commentary.

Are your panoramic shots hand held? They seem to wobble a bit.

The panoramic shots are handheld, I'm gradually shaming myself into getting a decent tripod. I think I'll find a better way of recording the narration, at present it's through the computer with a cheap microphone. HD is more demanding all round. I've been working towards an idea for a bike ride designed for filming and the Geopark area offers the best combination of quiet roads and spectacular scenery around, The weather is always the great unknown but an Audax or a Sportif in the area could offer an opportunity to show off the scenery with a narrative thrown in, much as the more lyrical bits of the Tour de France coverage mix scenery and cycling. I now know all the best set ups and have been working towards solving some of the technical problems. What I need now is an event and some good weather.

A monopod should prove to be all you need. It will stabilise most shots enough, and if you need real stability then you can wedge it against a rock.
It is simpler than it looks.

It was more the see-saw motion as the weight shifts from one foot to another. A monopod will not help much for tilts but will for up/down.
