One of the creepiest ...

....but best-acted acted films that I've ever seen is now on YouTube in about 13 parts.

The 1965 film 'The Collector' with Terence Stamp and Samantha Eggar.

I've never seen TS look more menacing than in this two-person 'tour de force'.  Take the time to watch this, despite the quality that's a bit low in places.

John Le Carre's first book, I think.

For a moment I thought you meant the new torture-porn film by the same title.

The book is said to have inspired the particularly nasty abductions and killings carried out by Lenoard Lake and Charles Ng.
It was a day like any other in Ireland, only it wasn't raining

Stamp?  Collector? Surely not.

Sounds like a new thread "Ideal actors for film roles".

"Blood of the Vampire" starring Vanessa Red Grave.

"What Women Want" starring Paul New Man

and so on

No, it's real!! ;D

The kidnap scene was filmed in Hampstead, very near to where I was living at the time.  I've no idea where the big house where he held her is, though.  Loved the two-tier underground basement.

Story has it that the director William Wilder picked Stamp and Eggar for the roles to reflect reality, as she had rejected him in real life when they were both drama students.  Mentioned this to a girl friend a while ago.  Her response:-

'What a silly bitch!' ::-)

Okay, add Christian Bale in 'Straw Dogs' to the list!! :smug:

Sorry, this is an addition to Lee's list of 'ideal actors for film roles', not to my best films list. :D ... although American Psycho was very black-funny. ;D

Straw Dogs has already been remade and is due for release in the coming year.

No Christan Bale I am afraid.

When ever I read "Use Of Weapons" by Ian M Banks I always picture Jennifer Tilly as Diziet Sma in a film version.

But thats my own grubby simian mind at work.

Well, if you're going to watch it via youtube, you might as well grab the DVD from usenet and enjoy it in proper quality.

The Collector is currently available in the group alt.binaries.dvd.classic.movies.

Giganews.com will do you a free 14 day 10GB trial if you don't already have a usenet service provider.
