A good fast ride down to bunbury despite the headwind, made better time than I expected, hoped to have a bit of a tailwind past Congleton but not much. Did some pushing up the hills to reach gun hill and a bit more up it. Reached the van of delights at the roaches but started with a bit of stomach cramps, thought it might be the cold water I was drinking. Beautiful scenery as we climbed and walked up to the top. Got to the junction with the main road, car in front, couldn't unclip in time so fell into the verge laughing at myself and a kind motorist stopped to see if I was OK. The lanes on from here had me wondering if I was on the right track, they were very narrow with a good amount of grass growing in the middle. However I had no choice but to follow as I didn't have a clue where I was. Had a cup of tea at Arkwright's store in cromford just before the climb out. Just about managed that but found myself walking again up to the high peak trail. A couple more joined me for that leg up to parsley hay. It was here my calf muscles had a life of their own twitching in all fashion just like Dr. Jeckyl as he transforms into Mr. Hyde. Stomach cramps still in force. Looking forward to the strong tailwind over axe edge moor that had been promised, but alas wasted on me as I walked most of it. Got to the cat and fiddle for a most welcome zoom down into Macclesfield with tremendous cross wind blowing me all over the place. Finished about an hour to spare. Could only manage a bowl of apple pie and custard at Perrin towers before making my way to the car. A most enjoyable bike ride walk thanks to all helpers.
