After a trial run of some of the quiz questions at lunchtime, you'll be pleased to learn that I'm making some of them easier

Thank fook for that! I've just been trying to think if I have a specialist subject, I don't think I do!

The whole wide world is your specialist subject OD.

Such a pity the Quiz "Master" was so incompetent.

Where to on Wednesday then? I hope you all had a spiffing time on Friday. I have been imprisoned at Center Parcs, which is very nice but more exhausting than going to work and I have my brand new second hand single speed imprisoned in the garage at home that I want to tiinker with!

Are you not an expert on the Village Idiots of Central Essex?

The interim forward planning associate has formally resigned - apparently he's busy at his "proper job" but the MEMWNS role was good practice for cat herding skills. I am not volunteering - I have always avoided management roles.

So to go to the traditional method of figuring out who is likely to be riding and anyone with special requirements or requests.

Who's heading out this week?, I will be and not worried about where we end up or what time I get home.

Alas I am unavailable again.  Birmingham.

Hoping to have the new steed ready but mudguards not playing ball!

Looks like the SKS set doesn't come with all the bolts needed!

I think mudguards are one of those things that appear easy to fit and end up being a complete PITA

The standard size for the bolts into frames and forks for mudguard and rack mounts are M5 (x0.8, ISO Metric coarse series). I carry stock of spares in various lengths and taps to clean the threads when they haven't been used and are full of shit/paint (portable stuff that could be handed over on Wednesday).
Don't bring the bits and expect me to help fit them at the pub - fitting the bloody things rarely goes to plan!

In the long term only use Stainless Steel fixings to avoid future grief (A2 grade work better on bikes than A4).

Front, rear or both?

I have the front one of these with all the bolts and fixings sitting in the box it came in.  I only needed the rear mudguard for my recumbent.

Thank you, BFC! Ha ha, I will pick up some M5's from work tomorrow - I'm pretty sure we have stainless ones somewhere.

Do you know is it normal to have to cut down the mudguard stays as mine look a bit too long?

Many thanks but I have a brand new set, front and rear - will pick up the extra bolts from work tomorrow and hopefully, that'll do the job!

The stays are too long for most fitments. They are stainless and a pain to cut - they need a fine hacksaw blade (32tpi) and a bit of effort, best cut off the bike after marking to avoid over stressing the mudguards and shortening their life expectancy (although air cut off tool does a fine job on the bike).

Good stuff - yes, will mark and cut off of the bike - I have a small vice I can put them in in the garage. Thanks, BFC

It was great to see you all on Friday night! Good chuckle as usual.

Thanks very much for the mud-guard pack, I'll have to sort out a bike to put them on!

I'm finally getting close to finishing the left over pizzas and have only just put the chairs away. However, I didn't even attempt to finish the beer in the end but on Saturday and Sunday the customers at the Chequers did!

Look forward to the next one - perhaps if folks are up for it, sometime in early July when the remaining work should be completed here?

 ^ Yes, another enjoyable Curry n'Beer evening at Chief's local, followed by campfire fun and (cold) night out under the stars. Fantastic hospitality as always! I had a very pleasant, sunny ride home and sampled the delights of Rayne Station cafe (where my laden machine was admired - tempted to say I was off round the world!) and rode the rest of the way home on a mostly dried-out Flitch Way.

Hooray for Little Adventures!

Better yet, find a job that sucks in all your time and energy and never go cycling again - much cheaper...
You can’t just call time out and stroll on into the beach if you don’t like the way things are goin’.

If I brave the weather and go out on a bit of a route check tomorrow, I shall probably be heading straight home afterwards and not on to the pub ... though there is a train-assisted bail-out plan.

To re iterate....

So to go to the traditional method of figuring out who is likely to be riding and anyone with special requirements or requests.

Who's heading out this week?, I will be and not worried about where we end up or what time I get home.

I'm likely to be out.

BUT!  No more 6.2% beers and whisky chasers - it all got a bit embarrassing on the way home last week.....
