The Cats is ok by me - there's a good gritted route home via Chelmo, only a couple of miles further than the laney outbound route through Great Leighs I'll probably take.

Having been out for a short spin this morning, I will consider seriously taking the Marathon Winters-shod bike tomorrow. It was icy well past midday on the treated roads and I didn't even dare try the lanes. There's still a lot of water about to wash the salt away and then freeze!

The M Winter shod wheels are going back onto my bike. That's the easy bit sorted, remembering where the extreme cold clothing got put will take a bit longer.

My problem is wheels that fit my current bikes, they are all tubeless apart from the CdF which would need the tubeless wheel off the fixed... I'll see what the weather is like tomorrow and think about fitting the winters

Apparently, the advice for concussion is "no contact sports for 3 weeks" and while cycling isn't normally a contact sport, I'm not risking an icy night just yet.

Shame, as the Cats is always a great pint and a warm welcome in the winter.

The headaches are clearing, so I hope to out for Epiphany....

Are you sure you're not going to pass on Saturday to save yourself for Wednesday?🤔

Double-checked the distance through the lanes via Felsted, Gt Leighs & Hatfield Peverel: it's a reasonable 19 miles for me, so I'll probably go back that way rather than through Chelmo, since I'll be studded-up. I'll aim to be at the Cats between 20:30 and 21:00.

Winter wheels fitted, electrons topped up, about to install the personal insulation.

Anyone else meeting at the roundabout of many names?

Hello everyone,

I'm going to be heading to the Chappel beer festival at the railway museum on the Friday night 3rd of March.

Would you like to join me and camp/stay over at mine?

I'll probably be getting there quite early and then walking back that evening.  It's around a 50 minute walk back to mine through the fields though can take longer if a refreshment break at the Swan is utilised.  Cycling takes 25 minutes via a more bike friendly route (with a nice 'ill in it) via Great Tey

Tickets sell out quickly so suggest an early purchase.

Normal setup at mine - grub, snooker, and plenty of room to sleep inside if preferred - bring a sleeping bag and camping mat

^ Hi Chief - it's probable that I and a few others will be doing a helpers' ride for the Horsepower 200km on Saturday 4th March, but I could come if we pick the 5th instead, depending on weather and others' commitments ... so unlikely to make the beer festival on the Friday night, given that advance planning is needed, sorry.

This weeks venue?

Positivly mild evening compared of late... Burns night to (though every night is burns night in our house  )

White Hart (but it closes at 10pm)
Prince of Wales (will be busy with Burns night dinner)
The 'dev Chelmo?

I'm nursing a bit of a knee injury at the moment, but hoping to at worst make it by Brompton (it's downhill home)

20:30 arrival?

20:30 works for me, on a fairly direct route through the lanes via Stagden Cross, Mashbury and Chignal St James. No frost or ice tonight!
