Sorry, I haven't ridden it before but I guess:

1. it will be warmer
2. my route in RWGPS shows 21,000m of climbing so compare that with whatever LEL has.

It will be warmer.  I was lucky to do it in a relatively cool year (2010) where the temperature never got about 35C.  I deliberately trained in hot weather in the UK (June 2010 offered a few 30C days) and I was able to manage, although the day through Tuscany when it was at its hottest was on my limit.  It is hillier than LEL and the hills tend to be much longer - though not truly alpine there are several ascents of 5 - 10km at 6%+ and 2 or 3 very long gradually drags of 20km+.  Because the Po valley section (400km) has virtually no climbing at all - the stages that are hilly are properly hilly.

The good news is that with the average speed you do have the opportunity to take those stages steadily and recover.

I go a little less well in the heat now that I have done, which is why I am not tempted this year.  I was just about OK with 32C on PBP this year, but if I had five days like that I would struggle.

I’m undecided about aero bars for this event due to the hills, but then there is the last flat 400km. Any advice from anyone that has done it before?

I will go with Aerobars for sure, given the amount of climbing my hands will be quite sore so to be able to have a position with no pressure on the wrists is key for me. Still haven't decided on the bike, the comfy 15kg machine or a speedier thing .

If you can ride aerobars, why wouldn't you? I've never taken mine off and I've ridden some pretty hilly stuff (Transpyrenees and Mille du Sud spring to mind).
Weight is almost irrelevant (unless you're racing Pog up mountains) but comfort certainly is.

Is it normal for Italian events to want this much stuff? Can't say I'm super enthusiastic about sending copies of passports / ID docs around the internet for a bike ride.

I assume they are asking for a number for a ride you are stating that you completed in order to prove you are capable of the event. You can find these numbers on your AUK results page under ACP reference. I guess it's related to this.

I don't remember it saying you need to prove qualifying events but hey ho I've sent them my AUK membership number and an expired medical certificate so I'll let them deal with that while I find something better to send them.

We booked flights and I had the route so if they get fussy about all this stuff I'll just ride it as a DIY (assuming I survive the S-L-S 1200k in June).

Article 2: Conditions of admission
The 1001 Miglia Italia is open exclusively to cyclists and cycle amateurs who:
2.1) were born in the period between 16/August/1949 and 16/August/2006, without distinction of sex;
2.2) are duly registered and in possession of a regular license valid for the year 2024 issued by a sports association or club
affiliated to the U.C.I. (International Cycling Union) or to an Organization or Federation legally recognized by CONI (Italian
National Olympic Committee);
• ALL Participants:
2.3) are in possession of a competitive medical certificate issued by a sports medical centre, not before 02 - OCTOBER - 2023 and
valid for 1 (ONE) YEAR. The medical certificate must certify the physical suitability for cycling in a non-competitive test of
resistance and of considerable and high cardiovascular effort, without risks and contraindications for their health.
2.4) have obtained at least one of the approvals listed below:
- homologation in one of the following events: 1001MI- LEL- PBP or other patent >1200km carried out starting from the year
2021 and approved exclusively by the ACP/BRM;
- homologation, in the period between the year 2023 and within 01 July 2024, of a BRM qualification patent "Brevet Randonneurs
Mondiaux" of 600 km organized in Italy or abroad, and approved exclusively by the ACP.
