I have a need to be able to edit and splice a series of audio files.
Basically, it's an audio book: someone is reading a book out loud.
You can't read for more than a few sentences before stumbling, so I have a disjointed series of files with overlaps around the stumbles.
I have used video editing software before, which can import clips and splice them into a timeline with in and out points.
What I want is something like this for audio files.
A GUI where I can import all the raw clips and then edit them into a final thing with in and out points.
Windows preferred, since none of my Linux boxes have X running, and I don't want to interfere with them!
Simple is good, free is better!

Audacity?

No, I think it's a reasonable query. :)

Another vote for Audacity,

In the absence of Cool Edit Pro and a Windows 98 box to run it on, I'd go for Audacity, too. :)

Right, thanks all.
I'll have a sniff at Audacity.
From the name, are you required to have ridden a qualifying SR series in the year you use it?
ETA:
Just looked at Audacity. Looks like *exactly* what I was looking for.
Thanks.
