List of 1200+ Audax rides in 2014
« on: 17 December, 2013, 07:25:46 am »
I like some others have probably spent ages scanning these pages looking for an interesting 1200+ next year. They have come up in useful links and if you are like me you forget which thread or where you read about the ride.

Is there a resource or list that holds links or some information on these rides?

Thanks

The ACP site appears to be down just at this moment, but there is a full list of BRM rides in 2014 there. Whilst not easy to navigate, it will let you know which countries have BRM 1000+ rides and who to email etc.
Right! What's next?

Ooooh. That sounds like a daft idea.  I am in!

i put them in Google Calendar with a link on the event details, so I can see which ones clash.

There's a few over the Atlantic.  The RUSA website covers those in the US of A, and has a nifty little search facility:

http://www.rusa.org/cgi-bin/eventsearch_GF.pl

But as said by others below, the ACP site is my first source of reference (even if it is not the most user friendly).  If any appeal, I then have a google to get more details (if no direct link is provided to details in the ACP site).

Also the Canadians are quite good at making their members aware of what is going on around the world.  For example (not all of the events are running in 2014 though - it's more of a list of many of the "known" longer events):

Tal's list is pretty comprehensive, unlike the others (ACP excluded, when updated).
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

At the time of writing these words, my list has about 32 rides.
The ACP has about 43 rides.

With the ACP page down, I guess I do need to maintain my list...

I'm happy to say the list is updated, and is now complete.

I've touched all the rides listed in the official ACP calendar, and added enough details to help you start exploring them.

The 1200 just after Christmas 2014 sounds lumpy.

For the RUSA rides just go to the home page and they are all listed with direct links at the bottom.  One of special interest is the Natchez Trace 1500Km.  No getting lost here. One long road,  no commercial traffic, without a single stop light or stop sign along the way.   Link http://www.rusa.org/index.html

Do you have a link to more info on it Dave? I've fancied cycling in Columbia for a while and that ride has "winter training" written all over it :)

The Merselo - Verona looks fantastic too, but wrong continent for us!

Best place to start would be to PM or email Tal.

I vaguely thought that the Merselo 1200 had already sold out.

Not a 1200 but I think 15000 metres of climbing might make up for that - http://www.audaxitalia.it/index.php?pg=calendario_brevetti&org=82&obid=170
stunning route, entry process is quite difficult but good value at only 50 euro. Cheap flights to Milan from Birmingham or Luton.

Put that 1000 in its own thread. The thread title is quite specific.

Yes, all 45 places gone within 12 hours, a waiting list is allready in place. By february 15th all 45 have to pay, we'll see how many people are still on the waiting list after that.

Victor is very responsive. He replied me in under 24 hours.
You can find his email address in the ACP calendar pdf file.

Some of the words he used to describe that ride:
Quote
begining in MEDELLIN and going to  VILLAVICENCIO and back.
i have no web site, sorry , we are here all beginers.....
not to much people here that ride brevets.

it will be a big effort to ride it, as one will need to climb 4 times from 100 to 3000 mts  above sea level, one could feel the changing temperature from 0 to 40 C in aprox  2 hours, having very different scenery each way and riding in not to good roads.

That intensity of altitude change is somewhat concerning without even considering the road conditions. First-time organisers of long brevets usually inadvertently do something that makes the event a bit tougher too. Intriguing concept but probably a bit out of my league.

Thanks Tal & Dave for the info. Yes it sounds a bit more challenge than I was thinking of!
I should have a dig around in the ACP pdf.
