A cracking ride this year. We were very lucky with the weather (after the storm that passed over the previous day, the weather was calm with pleasant temperatures) and the scenery was stunnnig. Especially en route to Great Dun Fell. I hadn't quite realized how tough that climb is (7km at 9% avg?), but the views compensated a lot. Not a lot of group riding after the Through of Bowland,  but I kept meeting the same riders as I overtook them (or the other way 'round). Just enough interaction to get the feeling that I wasn't on my own ;-) A tough day on the bike, but very rewarding. Thanks for organizing it, Andy!

I'm riding this tomorrow but still waiting for a GPX file and route sheet. Unfortunately it's a long drive to the start so I won't be near a printer beyond midday today either.
Anyone got this info this year? Or from a recent year I can at least use to get some initial review of the route.
Looking forward to it but nervous as I'm a bit rusty.

Thanks

Have you talked to Andy?
There are two versions of the route around the web and they are different, so you want to be careful what you download unofficially

Yes twice this week, and, yes, exactly.

Thanks to all those that took part in last Sunday's Knock Ventoux 300. In all honesty the event was unremarkable and passed off without any problems despite Covid-19 restrictions being in force. The weather was pretty decent (as it usually is) and a couple of nicks on the GPS track were noted.

There were 13 finishers this year and the result has now been submitted through the AUK online system. Some photos have also been uploaded onto the event website at: https://burnleyccevents.com/knock-ventoux-300/

Rider Richard Lake has uploaded a self-made video of his ride onto YouTube which can be found at:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=130AEbOdkCo

Obviously, with the covid-19 measures preventing the usual offer of free refreshments throughout and with no village hall fees to pay there was a larger than usual surplus from the event so a donation was made to the Save The Children UK charity.

The date for next year's event has been provisionally set for Sunday 31 July 2022.

Look forward to seeing you then when hopefully things will be back to normal.

Thanks for the links, Andy - very good!  I've not done your ride but I know most of the route and I rode up Dun Fell on one of Deano's camping weekends a few years ago.  I originate from County Durham, so it was good to be near Cross Fell, where the Tees starts (and the Tynes!).  Well done running the ride in the current conditions.

Just to confirm after a couple of queries that this year's Knock Ventoux 300 is being held on Sunday 10 April 2022, and not on the Saturday. For some reason we've had several inquiries over this combined with an already unusually high entry.

Hi Andy, I'm entered for this year and never ridden it before.  Is the route going to be the same as last year so I can download the ridewithGPS route as previously shown? Thanks

Well we had 42 finishers this year out of 51 starters. A big thanks to all those that took part; especially to those that said kind things about the route and organisation.

I've uploaded some photos onto the AUK Facebook page and a couple of riders have uploaded the videos of their rides onto YouTube (links attached below).

The provisional date for next year's edition has been set for Saturday 15 April 2023 and should count as a 300 km qualifying ride for PBP.

Thanks again to all those that took part this year and I look forward to seeing you on the road again soon.

Next year's edition has now been set for Sunday 23 April 2023, with a revised route. The event counts as a 300 km qualifier for PBP!

Start: Burnley, Lancashire
Time: 06:00 am
Entry fee: £10.75

There already appears to be a lot of interest in this 300 km Audax, long-distance cycling event from Lancashire to the summit of Great Dun Fell and back again - in a day!

A clockwise circuit circling northern England, with the ascent to the summit of Great Dun Fell, Britain's highest paved road at 847m the 'highlight' of the ride!

The early part of this randonnee climbs through the Trough of Bowland before descending into the Lune Valley, following pleasant country lanes and B-roads. An incursion into Cumbria introduces riders to the mighty Great Dun Fell; the highest paved road accessible by bicycle in the UK!

The return leg includes a visit to the Tan Hill Inn - Britain's highest pub and the climbs of Buttertubs Pass and Newby Head!

Overall, a wonderful day's cycling with beautiful scenery, covering some wild and exposed moorland (roads).

Just to confirm that the event's held on a Sunday as we normally get quite a lot of queries about this.

I'm planning some photography along the Knock Ventoux route this Sunday. Happy to give free image files to riders in return for a few paragraphs of text i can send along with images to Arrivee. No silly faces please!
