Recent spate of overly racy music videos
« on: 06 October, 2013, 09:09:28 pm »
I've read in the papers that the current crop of female artistes are prostituting themselves more than has usually been the case.

Now, I've not actually watched Miley thingy or the other one but having recently stumbled across an old Kylie Minougue video in which she was practically naked, I thought - surely the new ones cannot be worse without being actual explicit pornography.

So, for those who've seen them - have levels of acceptability reduced or are the modern crop, well, actually worse?

The charts now include views on Youtube, I believe, so getting sex-starved teenage lads to watch a video in the hope of seeing some nekkid laydeez can push your release up towards the top.

Cynical?  Twas ever thus.

Surely any sex-starved teenage lad with access to Youtube isn't going to waste time on music videos?

I was quite appreciative of the female dancers on Strictly, which I happened to catch at the gym. It still doesn't compare to Up Pompeii.

Attractive women?  Used to shift "records"?

Next you'll be telling me that they only choose the more attractive women to select vowels and consonants, or to show us where the rain clouds will be tomorrow.

Note.  I watched the Miley Cyrus "Wrecking Ball" video, after I'd heard the fuss about how shocking it was.  I wasn't shocked, much worse stuff on close-to-watershed TV. I thought she looked great.  Can't remember the song though.

Miley Cyrus will be making lots of money with her Wrecking Ball video

Until the next naked chick comes along

Her music is not great.  I think she was bored with being Hanna Montana.  I really don't understand that tongue thing.  Reminds me of Stimpson  J Cat.

In the wrecking ball vid, Miley  "the tongue" Cyrus is very definitely naked. Not practically, but completely naked. She does a kind of pole dance type thing with a wrecking ball.

I've been to a strip club once, on my brother's stag night. It wasn't any more raunchy than the Miley Cyrus vid.

I remember the old Top Of The Pops compilation LPs in my dad's record collection. Medleys of cheesy covers of chart hits of the day, packaged into an album with a scantily clad lady in provocative pose on the sleeve. I can't imagine he was interested in them for their musical merits.

I still think you can't beat German TV shows for this sort of thing. Buck's Fizz in leather gear playing to bored teenagers is terrific.

Or just go to youtube and put "Rai uno" on the search line. Then you get all the best from Berlusconi's  tv channel all the way from the 1980's until present date. ::-)

Yes, Italian TV doesn't even try to pretend does it?
Every TV show I remember was hosted by an ageing Berlusconi-esque lothario flanked by two 6-foot super models (wearing clothes made for 5-foot super models).
Totally inappropriate I thought.

..I mean having that sleazy Lothario continually getting in the way,

I know this is nothing new. And yes, you can see 'worse' on italian primetime telly.

But I agree with Annie Lennox about this.

German TV is just weird sometimes. I remember one night flicking through channels I came across a cooking show where the two middle aged female presenters gradually dis-robed as the show went on. It was quite bizarre, they were poker faced and no reference was made to the nudity, they just carried on cooking. Imagine watching one of Delias shows and she just starts getting her kit off in-between showing you how to boil an egg.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

I'd watch that for comedy value, especially if there was an "emotional" inspirational speech thrown in.

Although you don't boil an egg with a turkey baster, for some reason that image is stuck in my head.
