I stayed up late last night to see this rather splendit comet, shot with a 10mm lens. I also took some photos with a 200mm lens but the tractor wouldn't fit.

It was looking splendid last night, visible to the eye and once our local lights went off at 01:00 it was fab!

It disappeared into the sky around 03:50 when the background got too light to see it anymore.

That was fun!

Very difficult focussing with the longer lens.

I may edit them tomorrow... or even go out And take more!

The forecast here is very good for this evening so I think we'll potter out into the sticks and have a look...

I took this hand held pic very late on Monday (technically Tuesday), but we've had full cloud every night since then.

You don't HAVE to go to the sticks, you need a clear low northern horizon, preferably without extraneous light.

David's picture was at 2.03 BST from home.

Hi, mine were taken between midnight and 1am.

Well worth a look and reasonably high up in the sky as you can see. The final image, with the plough, is 24mm equivalent focal length.

Jan and I drove out to Paglesham, which is reasonably free of light pollution, but we didn't see any comets. There was a bank of cloud stretching across the horizon between NW and N, which I think scuppered us.

Edit: mistaking all the pictures of sunrise for sunset, and therefore looking in the wrong direction at the wrong time of day didn't help as much as you might have expected.

Keep trying, it is a sight worth committing effort to see.

I can't find any information as to how long it will be visible for, but I guess that is because it it a comet, and not a Tory Party YouTub.e

No pictures but I toddled up the mound behind the house and peered into the light pollution over Southend. Couldn't see anything with the naked eye but my trusty Swift Audubon 8.5x44 bins picked it up easily. Great sight.

It's past its peak brightness now where it was easily visible to a dark adapted eye so I now struggle to see it without bins - it's not helped by our neighbour's teenage daughter leaving all their house lights on overnight whilst they are away at the moment!

For those in Essex, might be worth another go on Sunday evening/Monday Morning, currently showing clear sky predicted for 01:00 which coincides with the street lights going off which will help!

I made the effort to see this last night with Mrs PC. Clouds thwarted us but even so Mrs PC thought it was a romantic walk because it reminded her of when we were courting in the late 70s I'd point out various stars, constellations and planets.

I can remember staying up late to catch a glimpse of Comet West in '76 (I had to look up when it was), I've seen maybe 2 naked eye comets (just) since then.
