Indeed, let's hope this can all go on as planned, especially the rides that venture into the neighboring countries.

Some detail on the Northern brevets. The 200 from Zuidlaren is a gravelride: the organiser is aiming for 50% unpaved surfaces plus a healthy dose of brick roads. The 400 from Groningen is a theme ride to commemorate 350 years since the Siege of Groningen (see https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Siege_of_Groningen_(1672)). It's a night ride to the city of Münster and back.

Always quite fancied riding an audax in the Netherlands.

I see a 600 starting on 30th April which is a weekend where I have the Bank Holiday Monday 3rd May.

gets thinking cap on......

That's the one I am organising (with Ernst).

I'm helping with all the Amsterdam events for those curious.

If you want a longer audax fully in the Netherlands, this one's great (I rode it in 2021). The only difficulty is that the Netherlands closes down at night (almost no 24 hrs petrol stations or McD's). Still plenty of public water taps, but you need to stock up on food in the evening.

And if Deano's Highland Fling is your other obligation that weekend: Can I take your spot? :-D

All the December events are cancelled due to plague :(

If anyone wants to ride the route anyway as a DIY, contact me or Ernst.

Having just looked down the list and seen Bergen as a startpoint, my curious and twisted mind imediately thought Bergen (N). Has anyone ever thought of organising a BB or even a BBB? (Not that I am volunteering to ride it - or organise a mobile soup kitchen on the route )

Bergen - Bergen via Bergens

I see BBB is possible without leaving Nederland
Op Zoom - Noord Holand - Limburg

The province of Limburg even has multiple Berg-town: besides Bergen (plural), there is Berg aan de Maas (singular) and Berg en Terblijt (again singular). For a flat country we have a lot of places named "hill(s)".

On topic: the gpx for the 200 in Amsterdam will be published on randonneurs.nl this weekend.

Limburg is Flat? I thought it looked quite rolling.

The south of Limburg can be quite lumpy (up to 1 in 4), the north of Limburg (were Bergen is) is quite flat. Berg en Terblijt is even right on the worlds circuit of Valkenburg.

I'm hoping to do the Heerlen one but am not making any firm plans just yet as who knows where we'll be by then in Covid terms.

I did the 200 from Bunnik a few years back when I was working in The Hague, very enjoyable, although you had to keep your wits about you as it was mostly on the excellent Dutch cyclepaths.  I had planned to do some more events out there, but I had to miss the 300 when my travel plans changed, and then my project finished.

Which one? The 300 in April is somewhat uncertain, but 200s in summer took place in both 2020 and 2021 without any covid-related issues. (There was of course some minor flooding in the Ardennes and the Eifel in July 2021 and we changed to route to avoid those areas.)

Just the 200 for me (June) which seems to be mostly in Germany, and hilly enough to make it pretty full value for me.

Yesterday we had the 200 from Amsterdam. 85 people signed up, 70 started, 6 DNF. The wind was quite brutal. Strong headwind for the first 100k or so, then a stiff cross wind on the final 30k. Everyone seemed to like the route.

There was wind yes, but also a lot of sun and pleasant temperatures. First time this year sitting outside and enjoying coffee and cake. Let's hope the next ride from Amsterdam has similar weather conditions.

It was the 200 starting in Nijmegen yesterday, at the start I met a chap in a red Alpha Romeo shirt, I'm guessing that was Alphapete who I met later on bench somewhere in darkest Limburg where temperatures were in the mid 30's.   I decided to look for the nearest train station which was actually in Swalmen ... Another DNF to my name

It was a pretty decent route through a region I know quite well, hopefully Alphapete(if it was you) managed to finish safely.
Regards,

Alan

If you're in need of a 600 which you can still enter or if you just fancy a a ride along the coast, this weekend is the Wemeldinge 600 leading you down the coast till France (Boulogne-sur-Mer) and back a bit more inland.

Alan, yes it was, though you'd be laughed off the Alfa Romeo forum for your mispelling! Good to meet you.

It was my first overseas event and my wife came along so we built a holiday around it. We rode 70km of the 2021 World Champs course together in Leuven, Belgium the week before and then moved on to NL as the forecast for the 18th grew hotter and hotter.

The obvious comments: the road surfaces in Belgium and around Nijmegen were sublime, along with the cycling infrastructure. Do you know, they actually make the manhole covers level with the road surfaces over there? In addition, the respect shown to cyclists and the yielding at junctions was wonderful.

The event itself was reminiscent of UK ones in some ways - a group of 20 or so riders surrounding an organiser giving a briefing in a car park to begin, some late arrivals so a total of 30 actually taking part. The controls were either manned, receipts or photos and the scenery was lovely on a very comfortable morning. I started a couple of minutes behind the others (needed a briefing translation) so struggled to prevent myself trying too hard early on.

By midday it was getting warm and I've certainly never consumed so much water on a ride. By mid afternoon, after a good chat with Alan, I was to be seen dancing in children's fountains and asking a gardener to train his hosepipe on me (he was reluctant, afraid that the water was too cold!). It was now 35 degrees C. I knocked on a couple of doors to top up bidons and the residents were very obliging and spoke excellent English. The heat began to wain later in the afternoon but at that stage there was a long section near the Maas river which was very open with little shade, and which was honestly a bit dull when I just wanted it all to be over.

The maximum altitude for the while ride was 35m and the minimum was -10m. I came in a couple of minutes under 12 hours which was an hour and a half longer than I would have expected on such a flat course chiefly due to frequent stops to bathe in the shade. There were still five on the road and a couple had dropped out because of the heat. The ice lolly on offer was just what we needed - bliss.

The nearby airbnb had a sauna and a hottub which didn't seem very welcoming after what I'd been through - the cold shower was much more attractive!

Oh dear... never noticed that  - but it gets worse, I was the proud owner of an Alfa back in the 90's
an Imola 75 series.

Anyway good to see you finished, more than I could manage. I could have helped with the water though, the track had lots of waypoints for local authority water taps along the route. I agree the route back could have been better but then it would have gone way over distance.

Regards,

Alan
