ELO - Out of the blue

Not cool but I was twelve and I still like it.
I think you'll find it's a bit more complicated than that.

It might not be cool, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to listen to Rock Me Amadeus later. It's already playing in my head. I can't say anything from Mr Mister remains memorable, I'm not quite sure why American AOR appealed to little me. Must have been on the radiogram or something.

With my own money - Sladest.  Actually, not a bad compilation. Wish I'd kept it when I succumbed to CDs and cleared out a lot of my records.

I can't remember when I would have segued from present money to my own, but thinking about when that would have been it was probably either some crap trance music like The Orb or something semi decent like Woodface by Crowded House or Steve McQueen by Prefab Sprout.
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

Status Quo - Hello - the album cover had a gloss black silhouette of the band on a matt black background.

I'm sure the spaceships on the label Vertigo used on their rock albums influenced album covers by other groups like Yes & Boston, and videos by The Darkness:

The earlier black and white Vertigo labels just made your eyes go funny if you looked at the turntable for too long.

Look at the label?  I was lying on the floor stoned having a rest.
Admission.  I'm actually not that fussed about cake.

Either Bob Dylan's first album or Do You Believe in Magic? by The Lovin' Spoonful.  These were pre-dated by an album of sorts that I bought for my Mam (we were both fans) of Roy Orbison - an EP including Only The Lonely.

Agreed  (the best, not that you own it!)
It is simpler than it looks.

Red Roses for Me by the Pogues, on cassette.
Tapes from friends and evening radio 1 were a good part of my listening. It wasn't until i had a saturday job (in a bike shop) that i could buy albums regularly.

Is this the "how old are you" thread?

We bought some tickets to see Siouxsie and the Banshees, Lewisham Odeon, supported by The Cure. I thought I should know the songs before the gig, so bought a copy of Join Hands from Our Price, £4.49, and played it continuously. As Bobb says, expensive. For context I earned £4 a day working in the telly shop on Saturdays.

I thought I still had it, but just went to look and it seems it was stolen by my mate Mad John and I have Pete Potter's copy with the gatefold sleeve.

Dire Straits, I think
First CD was either a Joe Cocker live album, or Bryan Adams Waking Up the Neighbours

ELO - Discovery

Didn't set a trend.  Haven't bought anything by ELO since, but liked it at the time.  Cycling the 4 miles back from the record store in Hull with an album flapping in the wind.

+1  It's now spinning happily on the turntable, side 2.   Still don't understand the significance of the pantomime Aladdin cover.

The Amazing Darts.
A doo wop  band popular from 1976 through to early 80s. I loved rock n roll covers, and almost anything from mid 50s through to early 80s. Some great music from then to present, but not my cup of tea

Stratosfear - Tangerine Dream (The first band I ever saw live, Manchester Apollo 1976??.. possibly)

My first single was - Somebody to Love - Queen.

40-something years later I am still quite happy with those purchases.  They stood the test of time.
Some people say I'm self-obsessed but that's enough about them.
