Good luck LWaB & co.  The current forecast is for temperatures just over 20C with winds slightly over 10 mph - i.e. pretty dang good.

This weekend has the TdF, the MR24 and Chris Murray's LEJOG attempt: so much cycling I'm going to explode trying to follow it all!
And the TCR!

LWaB clocking 16.3 mph onto the night circuit with 8:20 on the clock.  I'd hate to race a Battlefield/QB Mersey but he looks to be holding very steady.  Keep it up Dave!

It's been a bit grim overnight, with some heavy rainfall from about 2am.
LWaB is still going, Revellinho stopped.
Rain has lessened since dawn but still a bit unpleasant

The average speeds looked well down this morning, I'm now surprised to hear it's been grim  :o

Where can you see the updates on average speeds and distances covered etc?

Wow, this is a hard day!  Onto the finishing circuit and only one rider is over 20 mph.  Doug Hart, who usually brushes 500, is on for 20 miles below that.  I'm glad I didn't ride  :o

It appears not.  When did they change that?

Looking at those mileages it’s been a grippy event.  I wouldn’t have fancied repeated legs of Battlefield.

My mileage from 2019 would have got me a silver medal.   It didn’t get me a top 10 back then.

Well done, LWaB.  Is that your first 24 on the trike?  Pretty miserable conditions I imagine.

A grand total of 2 x 24hr TTs, first on bike, second on trike. This one was less than 10% slower than the first. Given the speed differential between bike and trike, it seems I am holding very slightly better than level-pegging with 2002 me.

That's really encouraging for you!  All that practice at the short-circuit HPV rides coming home to roost!  Seriously, though, that's a terrific effort in the conditions.

Well done LWaB.  Now you need to go back when they have a proper course and benign weather and smash it

Thanks for that but I can’t imagine doing the winner’s 517 miles on that course with that weather. Some folk are just Terminators.

Maybe in another 20 years. It takes a special determination to really train for and pull out a big ride. Several on this forum and even several on this thread have done phenomenal rides but nowadays I am too much of a dabbler at heart.

I found myself watching Damon’s films of the 2019 event today and feeling a bit nostalgic.

I have a big birthday in January and entertained thoughts of having another go.    It’ll pass.

Welldone LWaB and all the others that took part.

Seems to have been a pretty attritional year once again with the weather and I presume mentally more taxing on a limited circuit. Makes the winning distance pretty remarkable when you consider how much down others were on previous bests.

Last year it was brutal heat and no Battlefield circuit. This year the opposite. Perhaps next year will be perfect conditions for you Felstedrider?

Ive found myself daydreaming in the last few days about another go with more lofty ambitions, but on reflection I think I might be a dabbler like LWaB

I'm not getting any younger but I do have a new club record to chase.   It seems achievable.

I don't think my family would let me as I pretty much broke myself mentally last time.   Next year is unlikely, possibly 2024.
