In one of our wide-ranging conversations last week, My Dear Friend Penelope informed me that an emoji depicting an aubergine had alternative connotations. I had no idea.

Now imagine my total confusion when being presented with all this stuff:

The pink ring doughnut is a pretty obvious counterpart to the aubergine.  On some phones, it's a chocolate ring doughnut, which is unfortunate.  Unless you enjoy that sort of thing.
