Just rewatched series 1 and 2. I followed it better but there are still bits that only David Lynch understands. The ponderous Major Briggs was better than I remembered.

Finished series 3 last night. That was disturbing. As you'd expect, it's not obvious what actually happened so there are many theories out there.
(click to show/hide)
The most disturbing one is that the entire thing, from Series 1, has been a dream and that Cooper really is Richard, quite insane now, who has convinced himself that he has to save Carrie Page, who he believes is Laura Palmer. But that's too easy.
My interpretation is that Cooper is on the right lines but the Chalfonts/Tremonds, who we have seen are spirits that can appear and disappear at will, are trying to frustrate him at the last hurdle. From Sarah Palmer's voice breaking through at the end, and Carrie's scream, he may have succeeded. We're not allowed to know.

Funny that: we felt the urge to watch it again a couple of days ago. Maybe it's like sauerkraut - every so often you
need
it.
Wish he hadn't put the sheriff in beige pyjamas instead of a uniform.
