This Christmas, We Will Not Have....

Sprouts: he does not like them, I can live without.
Alcohol: he does not like it, I'm not that keen either.
Bread: we only really like one kind of sliced that Sainsbury's supply. This was out of stock - we won't starve!

A mass of soggy M&S pastry things as starters, I'll be at my sister's.

Turkey, nor yet any other fowl. Wouldn't mind goose but missus howls "grease" and makes a Face. Wild boar it is.
Foie gras. I like it but it kills the appetite and makes people hissy about poor wee ducks.
Oysters. Had a bad half-doz in 1986 and haven't been able to face them since. Missus never did like them.
Alcohol. Doc said no about 30 years ago and 25 years ago I complied. Hell, my dog died and it seemed to be the only respectful thing to do.
I've dusted off all those old bottles and set them up straight

Salt beef.
MrsC always makes loads, brined for a week, then baked in spices.
It went off this year, probably because there wasn't enough brine and some of the meat was exposed to the air, but we're not sure. Disposing of it wasn't pleasant.

There is another load brining now, but it won't be ready until New Year.

Assorted random 'essentials' (one of the Cubs hasn't actually got a christmas pressie yet, and t'other un only has cos it was a joint present for his b'day back in the autumn) and we don't give a monkeys cos we're going to go and cook the christmas dinner round at the littlest nephew's and all is well with the world.

So we'll have family, cuddles, sleep and some nice if somewhat eclectic foodstuffs cos the Spreadsheet of Christmas got a bit lost in all the excitement.  The rest of it is just trimmings and nonsense, innit.

Snow.

And a Christmas cake. I haven't bothered making one yet. Maybe I'll make one afterwards. Or some sort of bannock for new year.
Also no home made mince pies yet. Got some from the shop, but they're not as good.

Parsnips.

There is only one place for parsnips and that is the compost heap.

We like parsnips.

Sainsbury's had them at 30p for a bag in my last delivery.
Carrots were 30p for a kilogram bag.

I am pushing the boat out...

Presents.*

We pretty much agree this every year, then my wife goes off and just gets me something. Which means I have to get her something. Etc. The benefit of going on holiday just before Christmas means she's not had the chance, so we'll be present free. It's a big relief tbh, we just end up buying crap that we don't need or want, or novelty items that have an amusement half-life measured in fractions of a second.

Seconded on the parsnips, hate 'em. We will be doing turkey and trimming though, as I like it and frankly I'd have it even if I didn't just to annoy the fuckers who go on and on and on about their goose or whatever alternative.

*ok, the in-laws will bring something, though the last I heard they were trying to give us some money for some reason that escapes me.

Same on presents, because we're going separate ways this year, we did presents today before I head off, and a "family christmas dinner".

Presents numbered 3, some uber dark chocolate, a nice single malt, and a stormtrooper mug.  None needed, all appreciated

Quality Street , I hope.

Any Foodstuff needing to included the word quality in the name is like a country with a name including Democratic.

but if I really must, then a green triangle for 70s nostalgia ;D

It's also got the word 'street' in the name, which is presumably a reference to the use of those nutty ones that nobody likes as a pothole repair aggregate.

(They're much better employed as squirrel bait.)

Turkey. I am helping some friends cook an Xmas meal for some lonely old people (and us volunteers too). It'll be vegan because anybody can eat vegan and the chef is vegan.

So plenty to go round, then?

We've not had turkey for years. I ordered two roasts from Sainsbury's this year, to improve the odds something would be delivered (the three bird roast was already out of stock) so I have a frozen duck, now defrosting and a nut roast, for future consumption, in the freezer.

Christmas (vegetarian of course) lunch. I'm working with kitties and the the Sams. Although, I might have my version of Christmas lunch (roast parsnips, roast potatoes, carrots, sprouts, cauliflower cheese and Yorkshire puds) on Boxing Day

Christmas cake - I've made five for various friend, so can't be arsed to do one for myself.

All can eat vegan but vegans and vegetarians can't eat meat and vegans cannot eat vegetarian.

Alcohol. Well, the 3 other members of the house are but not me.

Christmas without mulled wine is odd, I’m missing the Prosecco. I’m trying ‘nosecco’ but it really isn’t the same.

No baileys. NO BAILEYS.

And my (decaf) coffee isn’t right without Kahlua or some sort of spirit in it.

I do a mulled (non) wine with red grape juice, orange juice, apple juice and spices. It's quite nice.

That does sound very nice, I might try that.

I might buy some mulled wine, baileys and other Xmas items for when I’ve given birth and can pretend it’s xmas day again 😃🎉
