Wheelchair query...

Someone may know about this...  Required is a lightweight tilt-in-space 'self propelled'* wheelchair.  Needs to be lightweight to allow easy use within a building, but with tilt function for comfort as required, due to extended periods in the wheelchair...

Perhaps a PM to Barakta would be in order? And/or Helly?

Barakta isn't a wheelchair expert, but she probably knows some people who are.  I'll point her at the thread.

Wheelchairs, like bicycles, are not quite as simple as they might appear.

The user really ought to get fitted professionally, ideally by an OT. A tilt mechanism will add extra weight. Shopkeepers can be helpful and knowledgeable but they will want to SELL.

A chair must be strong enough for the user's weight, the right width, height and seat pitch.
Are dual brakes needed? (One set for seated user, one set for pusher)

Look around, try models out, enlist advice from a seasoned user or other expert.

Don't rush into spending big money...

Helly says all I could suggest cos a lot depends on the impairment needs of the user and their budget. It takes quite a long time to properly spec out a user's needs and then the constraints which lead to any compromises.

A rider to my earlier posting is that small money spent on a 'first' chair might help demonstrate what the user REALLY needs.
?Pneumatic tyres?
?Cushion? Which cushion cover, content?
Chair weight?
Ease of fold & handling folded chair
Size of car boot/folded chair...

THere are companies that offer hire - which allows you to try what you think you might like before you commit to buying it.
