It's marvin gaye with an 'e"!

I wonder if this is about duets:  Chrissie Hynde had a big hit duetting with UB40, Marving had duets with Tammi Terrill and Diana Ross and Kate Bush has duetted with Peter Gabriel and... Rowan Atkinson.
Why should anybody steal a watch when they can steal a bicycle?

You could be onto something - maybe it's duets with people they were romantically involved with: Marvin & Tammi, Chrissie & Ali, Kate & Peter. Though I don't recall Kate & Peter being romantically involved. Not that Kate & Peter, anyway.

Edit: Pingu dashed my theory even while I was typing it.

Not on his birth certificate! He added the E himself, largely because of teasing at school.

Have they all had number one records in three different decades?

Not the Marvin Gaye part of it you can't, that obscure little gem was all yours.
BTW you need to be thinking KoM era Bush, as Pingu's already said.
Do not clench. It only makes it worse.

Rolf Harris plays didgeridoo on their records? I know he plays on one of the tracks on Aerial.

Not Rolf. The connection I'm thinking of is not a person.

Watching the Clothes on Learning to Crawl by Pretenders

Heard It Through The Grapevine by Marvin Gaye, music for a famous ad set in a laundrette.

Sorry, Clarion, I forgot you don't have a telly.

Forgot about the Marvin Gaye thing - couldn't think of the connection.

Who played the sax solo on the Average White Band's Pick Up The Pieces?

Urban myth. It was an air base in Cumbria that played the sax on Baker Street

Oh, alright then. Sorry, twas a bit of a saxophone anorak question. Bit like who played the Baker Street solo. It wasn't Tom Scott or Michael Brecker. It was Malcolm Duncan, the tenor player with AWB.

I guess a lot of people assumed he wasn't up to it. They wuz wrong.

Someone else have a go.

Oh, I'll chip in.

What do these three songs have in common

The Ballad of John and Yoko (Beatles)
Running Up That Hill (Kate Bush)
Alternative Title (The Monkees)

Brilliant, Martin.  Though I think the 'offensive' part remains in parentheses.

Running Up That Hill was originally A Deal With God
Alternative Title was Randy Scouse Git
Ballad of John & Yoko was They're Gonna Crucify Me.
