There's not much detail in the story, for instance whether there is a pedestrian crossing there and whether the lights were red or green.  A car driver would probably get off scot-free unless they'd run a red light.
Hard work sometimes pays off in the end, but laziness ALWAYS pays off NOW.

So it applies to cyclists.....
But only because there is no such offence as "causing death by dangerous/reckless/careless cycling".
This isn't just a thousand to one shot. This is a professional blood sport. It can happen to you. And it can happen again.

How do the potential sentences compare for involuntary manslaughter verses careless driving ?
Aero but not dynamic

Indeed. But that would suggest it could be applied to car drivers.

If the offence applies to cyclists it also applies to other road users.

The offence is manslaughter ( the involuntary etc are not part of the offence). Proving manslaughter is difficult. It is a safer bet to go for death by dangerous driving - the difference to sentences is in practice negligible. 14 year max for death by dangerous. Life for manslaughter.

It would be very rare for anyone to be getting more than 14 years for manslaughter.

There is an offence of furious cycling  - that is what has been charged before when someone has died

That was sort of my point, Spen: why go straight to manslaughter?

all very sketchy at the moment; Lidlington Place is one way after crossing Eversholt Street; so it's probably either cyclist running the red or the ped crossing either without a green man or just crossing at another point (neither of which is illegal). Streetview shows the junction as both traffic and pedestrian light controlled.

very sad though

on a tangent; how common are urban traffic lights without accompanying pedestrian signals? they seem almost ubiquitous in some parts of The City but very rare elsewhere.

There is a crossing there: clicky although obviously we don't know whether it was a factor.

Spen,
I know it's like measuring an unspecified string fragment, but ...

Can you comment on whether sentences for D-by-DD are comparable to sentences  for manslaughter by ...err.. other methods?

It might be an interesting precedent.  Sorry to hear about the death, though.
Getting there...

I don't wish to make light of this but, curiously, the report makes no mention of whether the victim was wearing a helmet.
