Is that close to where Robert Craig (Evel) Knievel got it spectacularly wrong?

It is indeed - the launch ramp is still there, about two miles away.

Good. He was one of the worlds nutters. The world needs that kind of nutter

As promised...

Bridge carrying NV-305 (the road used for the racing outside Battle Mountain) over the Reese River which, thanks to yesterday's rain, actually has some water in it.  What you can't see is that the truck has a second trailer hanging off the first - they are BIG.

Top of the bridge.  We zip-tie those boards to the armco to stop a crashing bike from going underneath the rail.  Edit: They proved their worth this evening when the Glowworm tandem hit them after a 62 mph run in very windy conditions.

As promised a couple of bridges from this morning.  Sorry about the murkiness; it was crystal clear when I got up but by the time I was breakfasted, packed and ready to move it had turned foggy / cloudy.  Probably the latter as it's just over 6,000 feet up.

Road bridge between the north side of the Green River and Expedition Island, Green River, Wyoming

Trona Bridge (footbridge), connecting Expedition island and the south side of the Green River, Green River, Wyoming

Expedition Island is so-called as it was the departure point of John Wesley Powell's descent of the Colorado River.  AIUI this bit was called the Colorado until 1921, while the upper reaches of the present-day Colorado in utah and, er, Colorado was the Grand River.

Also it's brown, not green.

I think tht's the same one as this

So there I was, making my way down the Belgian coast somewhere near Zeebrugge, when I noticed that the road (including cyclepath) had reared up ahead of me.

Nothing appeared to be happening, so I did a U-turn and found another crossing, then found the other sided of the bridge, and the reason it was open.

I started a rapid scroll down the 42 pages to see if this had been posted by somebody else.. Ashamed to report that I soon got bored and stopped.  If it's a repeat, I claim precedence as I took this in 1973.  It recently came to light in a black Ilfords Paper bag at the back of a cupboard.

Part of the MacArthur Bridge (rail) across the Mighty Missippippi in St. Louis, Missouri,

Photo taken through passenger window of (slowly) moving car, hence crapness.

Dunbar Bridge across the Kanawha River, Dunbar, West Virginia.

There's some potentially useful Bridge action to be had up the road in Charleston, but rush hour traffic may mitigate against it :(

It turned out that not only rush-hour traffic, but also torrential rain and a lack of anywhere to park within range, mitigated against a bridge-spotting foray in Charleston this morning.  Here instead are some XXX-rated bridges from the sunny end of Maryland:

Chesapeake Bay Bridge, between Annapolis and Kent Island, MD.  This is the Kent Island end; the Annapolis end is about five miles away.  I tried to get a better view from further south but there doesn't appear to be any access to the waterside except by walking through someone's garden chiz.

Kent Narrows Bridge, carrying US-50 between Kent Island and the Delmarva Peninsula, MD.  This is the Delmarva end as seen from the third floor of my hotel.

Waterman's Memorial Bridge, with the lifting section Doing Stuffs.  Nothing came through, so maybe they were just testing it.  Runs parallel to the Kent Narrows Bridge, part of which is at the top of the picture.

Both of the above together.  The white thing at the bottom left is the bonnet of a Ford E-series van which, praise be, is to be replaced next year by the Transit
