How far?

Yeah, me too - my morning commute is a short one (but I tend to take the long road home).

Bloody great news, anyway  :)

Hurrah!  Great news :)

I did my first bike commute of the year in short-fingered gloves today, which cheered me.

I rode home in shorts last night. I'd forgotten what that felt like.

Well done on resuming commuting Martin, it must feel pretty good after such a long time away.

I was off the bike for about 5 months in total, couldn't do anything for 3. Thus I lost the fitness I had and put on weight. When I started daily bike commuting my fitness soared, at the same time I started long distance cycling. I am hoping I can reproduce those gains all over again.

Having had to take 4 months off last year following injury, I can really understand how it feels.  I had a big grin almost tatooed on my face after my first commute (& the next few tens afterwards).
My fitness came back far quicker than I'd expected, or even hoped: I hope it's the same for you!

Enjoy  ;D

The ride home went OK too. There was a tailwind up the hill and I got up in 39x19, I used to use only 39x17 or 44x17 if I was on my fixed, so that's a good sign.

You will.
Years ago a friend of mine broke his hip in a crash at the end of april and did a 200 km ride again in september. Another crashed while riding The Ronde last year, broke the knobby part of the shank bone going into the hip. He is aiming to ride The Ronde again day after tomorrow, as fast as ever.

Most of the aerobic improvement is in the fist 2 weeks; after that it's just muscles really.
