10 years a shoe
« on: 19 September, 2023, 12:44:52 pm »
The Sidi Diablo winter MTB boots I got off Sergeant Pluck are finally being retired after 10 years

They are still ok but have been repaired and re-repaired with Araldite several times, the sole comes detached at the front

I've got some replacement Sidi boots for this coming winter/autumn

My Sidi mtb Dominators are 20 years old. I used to stick on bits of rubbers to the sole as it wore down but now the sole is smooth like the Look type road shoes.

I bought a replacement pair 5 years ago but can't be arsed to fit new cleats, plus they feel too big despite being the same model and size.

I checked my records and the next oldest shoes i could find a receipt for are from 2015.  They are Shimano MT-71 comfy shoes for commuting in.  Or these days going up the shops

However, i am not sure how old my Specialized Comp MTB shoes are.  I have had two pairs since 2005

I have a pair of ancient LIDL MTB shoes in excellent condition.  They are a bit heavy compared to my other pairs but I did a camping Raid Pyrenean in them, 2010 and weren't new even then.

There’s a photo of my first pair of Shimano shoes (I used Look delta system prior to that) when I retired them in March 2022. I think I bought them in 1997…

They would have done a few tens of thousands of miles.

A bit of gaffer tape and there's another quarter-century in those.
