As a very occasional participant only, my opinion doesn't really count - but I would prefer not Wednesdays (Wednesdays are meeting afternoon at work which regularly go on to 7pm so my attendance would always be questionable)

Wednesdays might work better as TLD is now at Guides, so she doesn't get home until 21:00 on a Thursday, which would make the logistics of getting Mrs T out with us a bit difficult.

Looks like early closing Wednesday.

But not EVERY week . . .
VELOMANCER

Well that's the more blunt way of putting it but as usual he's dead right.

So when's the first ride? I can't do next Wednesday (26th), by the way.

I am sure I could be persuaded to do two social rides a week :)

Well, I can do next Thursday. I do have a wheel to drop off. And some books to collect (finally).

I think I can manage either Wednesday 26th or Thursday 27th. My regular marathon Wednesday meeting was this week (2:15pm - 6:50pm). I'm not due another of them for 4 or 5 weeks.

Are you planning any COR? This may determine if I bring Beryl (the Dahon folder) who is easier as far as trains are concerned or Beatrice (the Thorn Brevet). As I'll be coming straight from work I doubt I'll have the new acquisition. I'm not up to riding that through rush hour traffic.

Wednesday it is then... Should get to Northallerton just after 6pm (18:07, I think). Sorry, but I'm stuck with either the 9:54 back or the 11:44 - so it's going to be belt round or really dawdle.
See you tomorrow if that's ok.

18:00 is fine, I am doing an early one, so should be back here for 17:00.

Now to decide where to go and to get my cycling stuff ready in case the traffic is a 'mare!

Dean, are you riding with a spare wheel about your person?  What is your technique?  (I'm having a bit of to-ing and fro-ing to Torslanda's at the moment and would like to ride instead of drive.)

No, I'm around this Thursday (apart from an afternoon weeding my dad's garden). Shall I pop down for 6-ish?

A wheel, and the rest!

It'll probably be a horrible bodge of cable ties. I'll put some photos up when I go.

Sounds, suspiciously, like a plan.....

Peter - have you got a rack on your bike? If so, it's dead easy - just cable tie it vertically to the side of the rack. Make sure it's high enough and far enough back so you don't clip your heel on it as you pedal. I've done this a few times (usually to take a wheel down to my LBS to get broken spokes changed).

Thanks Dean and Slowcoach.  That had occurred to me, I just wondered if there was some great historical dodge I was missing!

Well, I have seen one strapped diagonally across someone's back using what appeared to be old inner tubes. How successful it was, I've no idea. It did look rather uncomfortable though.

Tonight was relatively short, by previous standards, only about 20 miles total, and WET!

Beer was consumed, stories told and roads old and, urm, old ridden.

A good night, all in all.
