It's been a bit like that since the heady days of lock down MKI. I had to resort to the Internets to buy some v brake pads as GKs were down to their last pair

Don't know if it's related but Decathlon no longer have the ridiculously cheap dynamo wheels available

I did look for "that" wheel on the Decathlon website. I suspect it was a legacy stock item transferred into the UK(EU?) at the right time that took a long time to sell the batch, exchange rate changes and inflation were the only way to explaian the price being much lower than the cost of the components. They are unlikely to buy another container full if it took them that long to sell them last time.

^ I've noticed a lot of 'out of stock' or 'unavailable' on various websites recently. I hope it's just a short-term problem.

A Zoom meeting tonight 19:00-ish ... anyone?

UK businesses couldn't commit to ordering whilst the outcome of Brexit was undecided.
Now they have to get their staff (the ones that aren't self isolating or furloughed) to order from the manufacturers, order will go to the end of the queue.
Then someone has to make the stuff, assuming the manufacturers aren't closed due to Covid.
Then the container gets shipped, and possibly can't be landed due to all of the PPE sat at Felixstowe (unless the goverment has sorted out that cock up out by then).
Alternative is to transfer stock from the EU - but that requires the supplier to register for VAT in the UK.

The current hypershambles will take a long time to resolve. Political priorities will be maintaining enough food supplies to maintain everyones BMI, a lack of bicycle brake blocks and chains will only get attention when Boris's own bike needs a service.

For an individual item I don't think the supplier needs to register for VAT in the UK. I've just taken delivery of a couple of items from Sweden. The supplier removed the VAT when I paid, and I got charged the VAT on delivery of the item, plus the £27 that UPS rakes in for the privilege of collecting the tax.

 ;D

St John St Cycles seemed ok-ish though, when I finally put an order in. The consensus seems to be that it's the budget end of the bike market with the most shortages.
