You are gonna be soooooooooo skint at Christmas.

Not a problem for us. Names go in a hat and you only buy one present for one adult and one child.

We people of Jewish religion don't do Christmas. Just as well; I have 12 nieces, 8 nephews and a pregnant sister-in-law...

The god awful squeal emanating from the front n/s on my motor was not a shot bearing, a stuck pad or even distressed drive shaft.  It was...  a flint caught between a brake pad and a disc.

Not only was it trivial to fix, it hadn't even damaged the disc.

The car I brought from the forum 18 months ago for £50 has passed it's MOT again
Tyres will need renewing soon, but I wasn't going to do them just in case it needed scrapping.

I've had one of the best days at work for *ages*

 - the train was pretty quiet on the way in
 - the interview candidate at 8.00 was great, am going to offer her a job
 - I had a great meeting, where the client said our teams work was an "order of magnitude" better than he expected
 - I had the perfect brie, tomato and basil sandwich for lunch
 - a client I've been trying to get into for ages called me out of the blue, I met him for a coffee and he wants us to replace our competition
 - I got a seat on the way home too
 - and **the sun is going to shine tomorrow**

anyone fancy a pint?

I would but I'm riding a 200k tomorrow.

Actually, I might have a pint while riding the 200k if I get ahead of myself sufficiently.

My youngest son (19) has been accepted on a college course to study trees. He starts on Monday.

This is good news because he's wasted the past few years, spent months crocked because of a motorbike crash, didn't quite have the qualifications needed and arrived at the interview this week on crutches and carrying the thinnest "record of achievement" ever seen.

My older children have tended to pass exams and get accepted for courses and jobs almost as a matter of course... it is somehow much more exciting when it has been a real struggle to get this far.

This weekend will be spent finding him somewhere to live.

That is excellent news Gordy, good luck with the accommodation hunt. Our oldest went off to join the Army when he was 17 but son number two proved to much more of a challenge wasting a couple of years with school, college and lying on his back for several  months not achieving anything.

Twelve months ago now after lengthy discussions he finally got his act together, went off to Taunton to get some experience of the special needs school my sister in law works in because he wanted to work with people and that seemed a good place to start. Anyway, to cut a long story short after work experience and 8 months of working there on supply he now has a job with them and yesterday went out and spent £100 on a pair of football boots (this time last year that amount of money would have had to last him several weeks).

The accommodation issue was made much easier for us by my s-i-l offering to rent him a room, he is still there although the hope is that he will progress to the next stage of growing up and go off travelling, get a flat with friends or spread his wings in some other way. Last year he was a slouching, mumbling 19 year old with low self esteem, he is now more confident, walks tall and talks coherently and at length. and seeing him succeed as with your son it is a great feeling.

I wish you all well.

My son (4) can ride his bike

He was at the wobbly stage - crashing as soon as he realised that I'd let go. We took him to Battersea Park yesterday where he was due to meet a friend. As we were early I set of with him alone and he continued to make wobbly progress but as soon as his friend arrived he forgot that I wasn't there  :-\ and shot off over the horizon :D

So thanks to ChrisO who sold us the bike and Hatler for the loan of the LikeABike

and apologies to anyone who was mown down in Battersea Park yesterday by a runaway 4 year old
