Tour of Yorkshire Sportive 3rd May

Can anyone here give a good reason why I should pay to enter this event? I have been invited by a friend.

It is £49 to enter an event on open public roads.  I am struggling to see what other advantages are provided for such a fee.  I don't need timing, food or broom wagons to support my ride nor will be using their premises.  So, should I just ride the route without entering?

You pay for the experience of riding the event on the day. Don't go through the usual crap arguments to justify pirating it to yourself. Ride the route on another day or pay the money to enter the event, same as you would with an Audax.
Wheel meet again, don't know where, don't know when...

And I think it will be an event. I had a brilliant time riding the closed roads from Harrogate out west on Day 2 of the tour. Even setting off at 7.30 the pair of us got cheers, claps and friendly banter all the way.

I've had my early entry email, but realised that I'm entered for Brevet Cymru the day before and I suspect I won't feel like coming home and getting on the bike to ride to Leeds and then do the sportive.

I am doing the Etape de Yorkshire organised by CAC on4 July though.

Tempting... I believe have just made it up that the majority of the entry fee is going towards securing:
