Every year for the last 9 years the blackbird has nested in the garden. Two sites, used alternative years. This year they're on the neighbour's fence again. Last year Mrs Blackbird was happy to be hand fed worms.
There were four eggs last time I looked (when they were away and I could get a mirror through the rose thorns to them).
Last night nobody was home when I closed the greenhouse.
This morning nobody was home when I opened the greenhouse.
This evening nobody was home.
I carefully checked I wasn't being watched, and did the mirror trick again. One apparently lifeless chick's body was in the bottom of the nest
Should I try and get a gloved hand in there to dispose of it?
I don't know what got them this year. I can't see how the usual culprit's of Magpies could get in. No vegetation damage and I can hardly get my own hand in.
At the weekend I was Mr Caring. When I found aphids on the roses I carefully collected the ladybirds and showed them where food was.
Tonight I have sprayed Bug Killer everywhere, and filled the new ants nest with white powder.,
Nature sucks.
