Newtonmore Audax Weekend
« on: 02 July, 2008, 05:13:19 pm »
I confess I've been lurking on the Snow Roads thread (dream on CT!), and saw the reference again to other Audaxes - especially the Dulsie Dipper. So thought it best we could have one for the whole Newtonmore weekend.

I've sent off our forms now for the Dulsie Dipper on the Sat and the 80K on the Sunday (if not too tired), and booked the campsite, all I need to get now is some practice. My longest ride this year has been 70 miles to St Andrews!

I might also need to sort out better lights as I think I'll be needing the maximum time....

I'll be along on the Sunday, probably to do the Gaick off road 80k. I recommend this to anyone who fancies trying an off road audax. it could be done on a cyclecross bike for those thinking of giving it a go.

I'm at the 10 more in Moray on the Saturday, so no Dulsie Dipper for me, but will be at the campsite on Saturday.

After the Snow Roads I would be keen to go.  I'm right 'in the zone' now.

Probably just the 200, up and back down the same day if I can persuade Wee Davy to go halfers on the fuel.

I thought that you could take up your luxury Winnebago and sleep over.  Or would that mean taking the cushions off of your other settee to accommodate Davy?   ;)

We've got the forms, and have booked accommodation at one of the hostels.
And have already found out where the real ale is dispensed.  :P

Top marks Mrs Pingu for tracking down the real ale ;D
Though if I make it round 200km I will no doubt fall asleep after one.....
We're staying at the Spey Bridge campsite, it's super cheap and I'll probably be too tired to care how basic it is!

I hope to be there - I have a pass for the weekend. Will get the train up on Friday, and back Saturday night.
Haven't sent off forms or booked a campsite yet.
Must do some runs longer than 30 miles as practice.

There's also the very good Hostel run by Pete Main, a keen cyclist himself (and possibly the original organiser of the newtonmore weekend - I could be wrong on this ?)

Highland Hostel

Amyway, I'm planning on going up for the Sat 200 and Sun 82, hopefully staying at the hostel again.

I am probably going to miss this - I had hoped to do the Flamborough 1000k the week before but work got in the way so I'm keeping this weekend free for a 600+ "biggie".

Shame cos it looks like good fun.

Enjoy

I have sent off my entry for the Dulsie Dipper.  Thought this would be chance to redeem myself after DNF on the Snow Roads.  However,  SHMBO has organised a long weekend in Bergen, sans velocipede, so it looks like I will be a DNS.  Oh well, at least I'll get the full set of TLAs :(

 :o

If it's recommended by Craig, basic won't be the word.  That guy's so "imbued with the spirit of long distance cycling", that if you don't have to fight wild animals and sleep in a ditch it'll not be his cup of tea at all.  Hardcore hedge sleeper!.

Obviously, when I say camp site, I mean bush/hedge/ditch.  Audax...keepin' it real...
