Mrs L and I watched the first half hour of Dracula the other evening, then looked at each other and said "is this really the kind of thing we want to be watching before bedtime?"  It was good, but I'm not sure I was up for another 4 hours of that kind of tension!

"The Messiah" on Netflix. Not finished with it yet, but it's very good.

I was just thinking the same, after we watched the "A Trial to Watch" yesterday evening. Extremely well done farce.

I have worked with a few of the officers and staff in this documentary and it shows all involved in the light they deserve. Makes me proud to know them and have been in their number.

On BritBox, available on a free 30 day trial.
Halfway through Boys from the Blackstuff, I'm enjoying it as much as I did first time round, can't believe it was nearly 40 years ago!!
After that, I'm looking forward to revisiting Our Friends from the North.
That ought to be my months worth.

Quite enjoyed The OA, still suitably bonkers. Now V Wars which so far isn't nearly as bad as I expected (I expected a swift tumble into the soapy, turgid Walking Dead territory, which five episodes in, it hasn't yet). It's not great, mind, but for general brain disengagement, it works fine.

Flint Town on the Netflix. A sobering look at policing Flint, MI. In a David Simon theme. Sad in parts, you have to remind yourself that it's the richest country in the world you're watching. Told from the perspective of the overstretched and underfunded police force, but far from flattering, but again not without sympathy for people doing a hard job in hard times, with little support and training, and caught up in petty city hall politicking for points. The same politics that gave them poisoned water to save a buck. Shades in the nuances of the racist cops shoot black people narrative with a story far more complex. The horrorshow is, of course, the entirely abandoned black community, awash with drugs and guns, constantly brutalized, and a dearth of hope for anything better. The sort of streets the American Dream dies bloodied on every couple of nights. Pitches it into the election battle that saw Trump crowned, and truthfully you can see why people went that way, the false appeal of simple solutions to complex problems.

And another new series, a second of “Hidden”, on BBC4. I wasn’t too taken with the first series - I was hoping for more Hinterland as the team behind it was the same, but was disappointed. Still, will give this new series a try.

Stanley Baker, Herbert Lom, Sidney James amongst others.

Amazing cast: Patrick McGoohan, David McCallum, Gordon Jackson, William Hartnell, pre-Bond Sean Connery, Peggy Cummins.

The plot premise is of course ridiculous but still a classic film.

The L Shaped Room has just started on Talking Pictures.  Small part in the opening scenes as "Youth on the Street" by Cherie Blair's dad.

the first half of the Agatha Christie thing was rather good (something Pale Horse something?). rufus Sewell being delightfully smarmy, yet troubled.

Homeland Series 8.  C4.  Needs recording really, given all the frequent, copious adverts.

Billy Bragg talking about the skiffle craze of the 50s. It may be a repeat, but I've not seen it before. He delivers with passion and knowledge, although the cap he sports in some scenes is a bit dodgy. BBC4 now, just finishing.
