Anyone doing this ride tomorrow? I'll be there and so will leadoutrider (of the other parish, and maybe this one?).
-
Not me this year - but looks like a great day for it.
Watch out for that East wind on the flatlands East of Woodhall Spa.
Smother yourself in sun cream. I found this ride very exposed; you will be in full sun all day.
It's not, as I foolishly thought, completely flat. See how fast you can go on the descent to Horncastle .
Breath in that Skegness atmosphere. It's... erm... unique ;)
-
The forecasts say (ha-ha-ha) the wind will pick up a bit later in the day. Any extra push will be appreciated!
As for sun cream, I really should pick some up before I leave...
-
Looks like ideal weather for the ride...
Sadly I am on call (yet again) and hence cannot partake...
-
Good luck Andrij - not sure if I willl ever try a 300.
-
Sorry I had to drop out of this ride but my sensible head plus advice from others was to wait.
Received a text from Andrij earlier to say they were about to set off.
-
Text from Andrij to say he has arrived at Newark (50km), nice weather and found some ride partners. :)
-
Another text to say he has arrived at Skeggy and enjoying a G & T. Hot and tired. (14.50)
-
Text from Andrij at 21.00 "At Lincoln, next stop finish". Well done.

Sounds like a tough day at the office for Andrij. Still 70km to do at Lincoln if I remember rightly; and not exactly flat after the Trent crossing and through Mansfield.
I guess he has until about 2am (guessing 20 hours max for the 300, 6am start) so he should be OK - but it sounds like hard work.
From what I remember, I was through Lincoln at about 5pm; and I'm not exactly quick.
Chin up Andrij - keep pedaling!
-
He got in with half an hour to spare, sorry Andrij that I didn't reply to your last text, was in the land of nod. Amazing achievement, well done to you and everyone else that rode yesterday in the blistering heat.
-
Well done folks - and especially Andrij. Nice to get full value for money.
I hope you remembered the sun cream - otherwise you'll be in lobster mode today!
-
Did this as well yesterday and got in with two and a half hours left! Went to some dark, hungry places after Skegness and discovering that the feeding target at 160km of the Rose Bowl Cafe had actually closed in 1972! Hot as hell and great fun! :demon:

Wow, what a day (and half a night) on the bike! Still a bit tired, legs are in OK shape, but the undercarriage is in less than perfect condition. :-\
I'll try to post a ride report this evening, but until then...
Thanks to Mark and Janet for helping me around the route and thanks to those who have offered kind words of support, both here and via frequent text messages.

Was tempted to ride this one for the extra distance towards training for the Irish Mail 400 at the end of the month.
Eventually settled for a shorter 200k ride but with a lot more climbing instead as my weakness is on hills at the moment.
Maybe next year if it doesnt clash with the 4 Rivers from Shrewsbury.
