Points Chasing Thread
« on: 31 March, 2008, 03:42:55 pm »
Feel free to add to this thread to let us keep up with your efforts.

My target:

100.

Current (as of 31st March):

2321 (Somehow forgot I didn't do the Start of Summertime Specials 200).

(This is behind where I wanted to be, due to knee trouble during March limiting
me to 5 points).

Target: 100 too

Currently: 26

The Easter arrow botch cost me 8 (4 each way) and bailing on the Carms snapper yesterday didn't help either.

Will be perming to N. Wales on Friday (either 200 or 300), another perm the weekend after next (probably 300) and have two calendar 200s planned for later in April.

Beyond that, some sort of 400, then the BCM in May, then who knows.  I think I'll make the 100 points.  I'm on a 4 day working week now, so have a little extra time to throw into the melting pot.

100 points may not seem much after Mr Abraham's efforts, but it's still an awful lot of randonneur riding.

If I get a real burst of enthusiasm it might take me to 50, but I'm not fussed.

However many I get.  It's usually just over 50, but I don't count.

Honestly...

less than last year

My goal is "more than last year" (both AUK and FWC points).

Last year: AUK 19, FWC 15

So far: AUK: 12, FWC 12

8 AUK and 4 FWC (possibly 8) planned for May.

We all started with getting our first few points.  :D

I'm almost halfway to my total for last year.  At this stage last season I had 11 points.

No particular target this year - want to get to the end of the season not disillusioned with long rides to the extent that I go into hibernation for 6 months (2006 into 2007 season).

Bigger goals for me are Brevet 5,000 and Brevet 25,000.  Also Raid Pyrenean, which I suspect will give me more satisfaction than any AUK ride I plan to do, purely by dint of being unfamiliar (never climbed in high mountains).  Likewise a fixed SR.

Current 33 (DIY perm and Dorset Coast still awaiting validation), of which 31 are FWC points.

100 points is a lot of riding. It's one 200 every week, with two rest weeks.
Assuming you have no points at the end of April, that is about 400km every weekend, either 2 200's or a 400 every weekend, even in Septempber and October. It's enough to do if you don't have anything else, but if you have a family or something, it means more longer rides.

I might go for 100 myself this year. If I keep my RRTY 600 going, that will be 72 points. Add a few other rides, which will push it over 80 quite easily, then it's just a matter of doing a few more rides. Still not sure yet though. I might not bother. I've had enough of riding just for points. I'll only do it if it gets me out on my bike instead of staying at home. Or just to be sociable.

No real target.

8 so far

It would be nice to match last year (25 i think) but time is at a premium.

I hope to hit the ground running in 2009, not that I am planning to take 2008 off - just shorter rides.

Did a BRB (Belgian BR) yesterday. That might coun't, or not. I still have to check since it's ridden according to the ACP rules but not recognised by the ACP (due to some conflicts).

Long time ago I did manage 41 points in 3 consecutive events, each finishing a week apart.

I've got 7. ;D  Should be 11, but the other two rides haven't been validated yet.  10 more in two rides to come over the next month.

This points thing is funny. Being short of spare time and also a sportiver, my points tally would be from an SR plus a couple of 200's if all goes to plan (20-ish). Fairly inconsequential in the grand scheme of things.

However, if I do any big ride outside of the Audax/Sportive world, I always look for a means of turning it into a diy (e.g. I'm doing a North Wales and back thing for our kids' school at the end of May, and I've crafted it into 2x200's, which I'm sure I'll enter as diy's).

So points chasing is contagious, whether you're cup chasing or not.

One of them was a 24 or 26 point permanent?
