This photo was at the top of a Graun article. I clicked the article to read it and the photo came into view. I instantly recognised it without seeing the caption.

Anyone else know it (I suspect there are lots...)?

Totally random bit of Latin in sub-suburban Leicestershire earlier this week.
(Possibly not completely random, as there's a tree stump removal business not too far away - but ......)

Seen on FB. An absolutely stunning King of Mercia with a Rohloff hub. Some bloke's retirement present to himself.

Word's largest container ship passes the end of Southend Pier (not my photo). My source said it has 19000 containers on board.

Horrible things.  I used to have a chum who lived on the Scheldt estuary and posted shots of those horrors a couple of times a week.

I don't know about Southend Pier. I see it has a tram track or railway running along it. What is it and what is it used by and for, either now or in the past?

Isn't that the one with battery-powered trains?

Many years ago, as a site geologist, we were drilling boreholes in the sea bed just to the east of the pier in planning for a marina - never built.  Such investigation works are carried out 24/7 and I vividly recall having to walk the length of the pier on occasion, at night, carrying equipment, or going out to the end to position the drilling craft for its next borehole.  That was a long walk at night. There was a  tourist train, but not for me.

The Co-op in the village has had one for a few years.  Never seen anyone using it in anger though.

The thing I find is that my bike rarely has a mechanical problem when I'm near one.

I think they're more useful at long-term cycle parking, like a workplace or railway station, where you're more likely to come back and discover a slow p*nct*r*

I've never used one but I quite regularly see people using the one on the corner between small Sainsbury's and the undertakers that used to be a mobile phone shop (and once upon a time a bank).

One of the bike shops in town kept (possibly still keep - I've not been that way for ages) a track pump chained up outside, and people certainly used that.  Being handy for Mordor Central probably helped.

I've just remembered trying to use one in ABROAD during the Fridays' tour, albeit for someone else's bike.  Thwarted by the pump head being set up for Woods valves or something.

In terms of actually seeing them used, the ones I've come across at MTB trail centres are probably winning.
