Did you know that Oliver Deon was the first boss of this cinema chain?

Coincidence, surely? Odeon as a name for cinemas predates the Odeon chain, being Greek for a theatre.

Some people watch monochrome TV!
http://www.thisislocallondon.co.uk/news/10923088.TV_Licensing_reveals_number_of_homes_still_watching_black_and_white_sets/?ref=rss

This was going round in Birmingham too.  I assume the TV Licensing people are having a press release campaign.

I'm impressed; I thought the B&W licence died with analogue (I was wrong - you need a colour licence for a recording device, not a digital tuner).  Freeview tuner on a B&W telly, though.  That's a bit steampunk.

(MythTV driving a 405 line TV is even more steampunk, but would require a colour licence, as it's a recorder.)

I thought Odeon cinemas were founded by Oscar Deutsch (Birmingham, 1893-1941) in 1928, the first one under that name opening in Perry Barr in 1930, & the firm used the slogan "Oscar Deutsch Entertains Our Nation".

The first house my Nana worked in was in Birmingham.  She was originally from Birmingham.  She might have mis-remembered Oscar Deutsch as Oliver Deon.  It was before the second world war!  I can't remember who my boss was in 1986!  ::-)

He's got the fork the sensible way up, too.  Appalling.

Time to watch The Bicycle Thieves again - IIRC they pick up a knife and fork but never do actually get their pizza.

Our local paper is full of this kind of rubbish. You would think that the local economy revolved around accountants, estate agents ,solicitors and designing exhibitions or interiors. These are the type of businesses that send out endless PR guff and papers, being short of content use it ad infinitum.

Nottingham station is currently rocking the New Street "plywood hoardings and lack of signage" look.  You'll be right at home.
