brevet 5000
« on: 03 October, 2013, 02:55:53 am »
Hi,

The blurb states 'This is a major challenge which is achieved only by very experienced randonneurs. In a four-year period, ride a randonnée of 1200km, a 200, 300, 400, 600 and 1000km, a 24 hour team event, plus other rides to top up to 5000km.' My question is, can longer substitute for shorter?

Cheers,

Doo :)
I dunno why anybody's doing this!

For the AUK Brevet 5000, yes. You still have to complete an Arrow though.

But (AIUI) for the ACP version, longer distances can't substitute, and all counting events need to be BRM.

Correct but the equivalent ACP award is the Randonneur 5000. There is no ACP Brevet 5000.

Oh yes, it has a different name too!

ETA: (But once you've got the B5000 you'll probably be well on the way to the ACP-R5000, so it's as well to be aware of the differences)

I must admit i find these 2 from the arrow section in the handbook confusing.

NB Only the EASTER Arrow may be substitituted for the FLECHE VELOCIO in France when claiming
your free Brevet 5000 medal from Audax Club Parisien.

11. VALIDATION will be awarded to a team of 3 riders (minimum) who complete an identical distance.
Lone riders who comply with the rules may claim AUK but not ACP validation
When you're too tired to continue you fall off

200(7) 300(4) 400(4) 600(3) 1200(1) 1400(1)

The Fleche Velocio is the French Arrow and there are equivalents homologated by ACP in many countries. For the UK, it is the Easter Arrow to York.

The Summer Arrow is not homologated by ACP, only AUK, and only qualifies for AUK awards.

The second bit is a sop for Easter Arrow teams that finish with fewer than 3 riders. The rides will be homologated by AUK but not by ACP.

Yes, 11. if you read it wrong could imply for AUK validation you could do a solo (team) arrow. Being a miserable grumpy "billy no mates" i was just wondering  ;D

Another question about this - is "four-year period" a 48 month window starting anytime? Or is it four AUK seasons? Or is it four calendar years? Makes a difference if some of the rides used for claiming the award are close to 48 months apart.
